The Position:
The Director will report directly to the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) and serve as a member of the CSO leadership team responsible for leading the Research and Early Development function. The Ex. Director, Genomics and Data Science oversees and guides our efforts to leverage genetics in diverse strategic areas that include but are no limited to: patient selection, new target ID, analysis and interpretation of complex clinical data sets, identification of genetic modifiers that impact clinical responses . The Ex. Director performs both a critical strategic role, as well as hands-on role, in overseeing the scientific direction of programs involving human genetics and genomics for target identification and validation. This role is responsible for the objectives, strategy, and implementation of all our human genetics work, and for hiring and developing a group of highly trained geneticists and computational scientists. Cross-functional key stakeholders include Translational Biology, Clinical Sciences, Biostats, Clinical, Medical Affairs and Research teams.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

• Leads a diverse team of clinical geneticists and computational biologists to support research and clinical program goals.


• Lead and evolve the core bioinformatics/ genomics function at Sarepta by providing leadership, strategic oversight, resource management, and organizational framework to ensure timely achievement of pipeline goals.


• Professionally represent the organization in collaborations, partnership discussions, and external relationships and conferences; build external collaborations with rare and large population databases.


• Manage communications and build collaborative relationships with key stakeholders and opinion leaders both internally and externally, including for example Pre-clinical and Clinical Development, executive management, external vendors, scientific advisory board, and clinical investigators.


• Identify opportunities to effectively partner with new groups to expedite scientific breakthroughs across the R&D function.


• Serve as a mentor to other members of the research staff and foster a culture of scientific excellence and cross-functional collaboration.


• Continuously create and update target lists for Gene Therapy and RNA programs.


• Support pharmacogenomics for Gene Therapy and RNA programs.


• Support molecular defining of clinical trial populations.


• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Desired Education and Skills:

• MD, MD/PhD, or PhD with 12+ years of human genetics research and leadership experience, preferably on projects that impact target identification, biomarker identification, and/or drug discovery.


• Demonstrated experience with a minimum of 7 years of experience in human statistical genetics, genetic epidemiology, or bioinformatics (peer reviewed publication, history of achievement, patents, etc.) with an appreciation of the role of human genetics for target identification and validation.


• Known as a leader in the field of human genetics, as evidenced by multiple publications in top tier journals, presentations international meetings, and service on scientific strategy and review panels.


• Excellent communication skills and evidence of success in complex, multidisciplinary environments is required.


• Strong managerial skills with the ability to successfully lead, recruit and cultivate a high achieving organization that attracts, develops, motivates, and retains key talent.


• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications; Word, Excel, Outlook, and functional systems.
