Job Description:


Positon Description:

Systems Integration and Test Facility (SITF), Systems Integration Laboratory (SIL) Hardware-in-the-Loop facility (HWIL), and the Software Development Facilities (SDFs) that will be used to verify the integrated avionics system for the Space Launch System (SLS) at NASA � s Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). The position requires expertise in assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and some limited design skill that would be relevant in supporting distributed computing and simulation laboratories, integration tasks and development activities. The position will require personnel certification in operations including Electrostatic Discharge, Cabling Operator, and Crimping Operator.

Responsibilities:

Perform software/hardware integration activities as required:


  • Support systems integration functions
  • Support software/hardware integration troubleshooting and bug-fix activities
  • Develop and execute test plans and procedures
  • Enter or update documentation into appropriate control system
  • Troubleshoot simulation anomalies
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure products meet performance goals
  • Provide weekly written and oral status reports in a meeting setting
  • These activities will be on-going as the launch vehicle architecture matures and the SLS program completes program phases, reviews and schedule milestones.

Qualifications:

Typically, educational requirement is a High School diploma or GED or equivalent; and at least 6 years of experience and continuing education, or an Associate's Degree or equivalent and at least 2 years of experience.

Required:


  • Experience in electronic hardware assembly and test.
  • Experience in troubleshooting flight like bus interfaces such as MIL-STD 1553B, RS422, RS485, Compact PCI, PCI Express, Gigabit Ethernet (GbE), Discretes, Analog-Digital, Digital-Analog, etc. in support of launch vehicle avionics HWIL systems integration and test.
  • Self-motivated, team player familiar with working in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to determine a software fault and system level source of a software fault.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain certifications for various activities such as Overhead Crane/Hoist, Program Critical Hardware/ Manual Move, Electrostatic Discharge, Scissor Lift, Aerial Platform and Forklift.
  • Familiarity with NASA quality control policies and procedures.
  • Experience in computer rack development, buildup, installation and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Linux based operating systems.
  • Experience working with models and simulations of launch vehicle subsystems and avionics hardware in support of launch vehicle avionics HWIL systems integration and test.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering processes and procedures in disciplines such as hardware and software integration, requirements development, verification and validation, and testing.
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.

Desired:

  • Experience with cable routing and cable testing is highly desired.
  • Experience writing and executing test procedures, performing electrical fabrication and assembly based on verbal or written input, and performing troubleshooting of hardware installations is highly desired.

Work Environment:

Office/lab environment. Requires ability to interact effectively with co-workers, managers, and clients. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, and accurate communications, both verbally and in writing.

Physical Requirements:

Will be performed onsite at NASA/Marshall Space Flight Center (100%). Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Jacobs facilities (10%).

Equipment and Machines:

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, telephone, task related software, and other general office equipment (15%).

Attendance:

Normal workday is 7:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday but may be adjusted to meet customer requirements or needs of employee. Regular attendance and punctuality are mandatory for meetings and other planned occasions.

Other Essential Functions:

Ability to communicate effectively and work under supervision is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
