We are looking for a full-time Software Engineer 1 (DevOps) for our at our Olathe, KS location. This software engineer will administer, develop and support software engineering tools within Garmin's engineering group. In addition to designing new software and performing maintenance on existing products, engineers develop software in Java, JavaScript and Python. They also test software using debuggers, emulators and simulators; perform software releases and software quality assurance activities; and work collaboratively and professionally with other Garmin associates. Other essential functions include:



  • Support the administrative needs and manage software engineering tools.    These tools include (but are not limited to)version control, code review, requirements management, issue tracking, build and integrated development environment tools.




  • Design and implement highly scalable cloud based applications and REST based web services




  • Maintain and improve existing software  engineering tools with upgrades and installations




  • Work with other Garmin teams to ensure infrastructure and applications that depends on it work together seamlessly




  • Assist in training engineering staff on proper software engineering tool use




  • Apply Garmin's Mission Statement and Quality Policy and enthusiastically exhibit a desire to see Garmin succeed



Qualified candidates for this role will possess a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering Aerospace Engineering, Math or Physics or a technical field (such as CIS or IT) relevant to the essential functions of this job description from a four-year college or university OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. Other requirements include:



  • Demonstrates proficient knowledge and utilization of engineering tools necessary for successful performance of the essential functions of this job description




  • Must demonstrate proficiency and possess experience necessary to develop basic software in Python, JavaScript, Java C, C++, language, or other selected languages




  • Demonstrates knowledge of relevant software engineering tools (configuration management systems, build processes, debuggers, emulators, simulators and logic analyzers)




  • Demonstrates knowledge of relational databases such as MySQL




  • Must possess experience with Linux/Unix administration and proficiency in shell scripting and command line tools



Desirable Qualifications:



  • Experience developing applications using web standards such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, DOM, and HTTP




  • Experience with NoSQL databases, such as MongoDB or CouchDB




  • Experience with software development quality methodologies such as nightly builds, unit testing, static code analysis, and code reviews




  • Experience with Windows software deployment and administration
