Golder has a new opportunity for an Engineering Geologistto join our Anchorage, Alaska team. The focus of the work includes developing and conducting geotechnical field investigation programs, site characterization analysis, collaborating analyses with our geotechnical engineering team, and reporting. The successful candidate will work closely with our Alaska operations that specializes in site characterization, geotechnical engineering applications, permafrost related geotechnical aspects, and rock mechanics. Our team thrives on developing client solutions for Arctic challenges.
We value the ability to have excellent verbal and written communication skills combined with a positive attitude to work both independently and with teams. A willingness to perform a variety of assignments on short notice is required with the ability to travel to remote work locations, including client camps and rural Alaskan communities while navigating challenging terrain. Responsibilities of the role will include:
Organize and conduct site characterizations, which includes field logging, sampling and testing from boreholes and test pits (e.g., soil, rock, groundwater, permafrost, contaminated soil)
Perform geologic mapping and site reconnaissance
Compile and summarize geologic and geotechnical data
Contribute to writing reports and other related duties to support multidisciplinary project teams
Install and monitor geotechnical instrumentation
Assist with geophysical surveys
Perform construction monitoring
Assignments will include four-season travel to remote locations in Alaska and work outdoors
Required:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Geology or Geology
Field experience logging geologic materials
Experience with field mapping and the use of a compass, GPS and GIS software
Passenger vehicle driving will be required for some services
Demonstrating a safety conscious focus
Motivation to own and build your career
Familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Willing and able to perform a variety of assignments on short notice, including traveling away from home, sometimes to remote locations
Candidates must be willing to work in the field conducting physically rigorous fieldwork in a variety of challenging terrain and weather conditions
Candidate must be willing to operate and maintain field testing and monitoring equipment and be able to lift 40 pounds unassisted
Desired:
1-4 years professional geology experience in consulting or industry
Previous experience and familiarity with remote logistics in Alaska
