Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Physical Security Officer (PSO) to ensure that security interests are being adequately protected in accordance with approved physical security plans (PSP). You will be the liaison between the security offices and employees, giving you the opportunity to work with a variety of organizations and individuals at INL!

This position is located at our desert site facilities, approximately one hour from Idaho Falls and will work a 4x10 schedule (every Friday off!).

Specific responsibilities include:


  • Provide direct and indirect support to all facility operations and work directly with facility program managers to ensure compliance with Department of Energy (DOE) security orders while maintaining operations efficiency.

  • Provide oversight of all current and future security projects to ensure protective measures are implemented in a consistent and fiscally responsible manner.

  • Function as the facility's primary security point of contact and facilitate communication and effectiveness between the different Safeguards and Security entities at various INL and DOE facilities.

  • Handle the facility PSPs to ensure security policy and practices are accurate

  • Provide direction and supporting documentation in all matters regarding REAL ID and INL's procedures that have reference to REAL ID.

  • Keep DOE informed of what actions are being taken, gather additional information, as well as ensure BEA is adhering to the directives of DOE-ID.

  • Functions as a project coordinator in various organizational needs to achieve the organization's objectives. Guides the successful completion of major programs.

  • Develop and handle DOE access controls for the facilities.

  • Ensure the Central Alarm System and associated alarms provide adequate coverage of facility security interests as directed in DOE orders and approved PSPs.

  • Provide primary oversight for the security repository program; authorize controlled article permits; issue temporary permits as needed; facilitate controlled substance surveys with local law enforcement and DOE-ID security; and develop and provide physical security presentations as requested.

  • Has the authority to interpret DOE manuals and orders to lead the appropriate physical security deviations (exemptions, equivalencies)

  • Utilize multifaceted security experience to solve sophisticated security issues. Exercise's judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to resolve problems. Trains, guides, and mentors other PSO staff on related job functions.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree plus 5-8 years relevant experience or an advanced degree plus 3-6 years.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE "Q" clearance and Human Reliability Program (HRP) certifications.

Preferred experience:


  • Must have an in-depth knowledge of physical security systems, practices and requirements.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, computer skills, and ability to remain professional in difficult circumstances.

  • Ability to generate detailed plans and procedures, reports, and other documents.

  • Working technical knowledge of central alarm station systems, access control and alarm systems, and the ability to oversee a variety of security protection measures.
