About the job

Our Richmond manufacturing facility is adding a brand-new 3rd shift team to our lineup, and we’d like to hear from you. This position works in the fabrication of ASME certified heat exchangers made from carbon steel, stainless steel & various alloys. The Welder, using blueprints and other documents, will lay out, fit and weld fabricated, cast and forged components to various parts of the pressure vessel using a variety of weld processes in a number of positions. All work is at a minimum ASME certified and stamped.

*Hired candidates will receive a $1,000 sign-on bonus.*

Hours: 10:00pm-6:30am, Sunday through Thursday

Base pay starts at $19.07 per hour (or higher based on experience), plus $1.00 per hour shift differential

As a part of the team, you will:


  • Fit and weld ASME Code and structural work

  • Select equipment, plan layout, assemble, fit-up, and weld in accordance with standard specifications

  • Lay out, position, align, and fit components together and perform welding operations in accordance with Weld Maps, drawings or other customer requirements

  • Set up equipment and weld parts, using GTAW, GMAW, and FCAW welding processes per WPS or other applicable standards

  • Perform quality checks and continuously inspect materials and production to ensure product is in conformance

  • Identify and communicate any non-conforming products per SOP or applicable process

  • Repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts in accordance with Weld Maps or other customer requirements

  • Perform Liquid Penetrant and other non-destructive testing as required

  • Record data on quality documentation, components and product per company standards and/or customer requirements

  • Participate in the team’s continuous improvement and development in accordance with the Alfa Laval Production System (ALPS). Examples include 5S, Problem resolution process (PRP), and Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM)

  • Cross train to support any and all department or factory demands as needed

  • Maintain equipment and cleanliness of work area

  • Lift raw materials, finished products, and packed items, manually or using lifts

What you know

You have a high school diploma or GED, with an Associates degree in Welding Technology preferred, basic computer skills, an ability to lift up to 60 pounds, and 2+ years of prior experience in:


  • ASME & pipe fitting experience working with carbon and stainless steel materials in fabrication of pressure vessels

  • High comfort level with and ability to read and interpret blueprints, bill of materials, filler metal specifications, welding symbols, WPS, and PQRs.

  • Qualifying and welding on all processes in 6G position

Note: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods of time.  The employee is regularly required to use hands to operate equipment.  The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distinguish color, and ability to adjust focus. Safety equipment required when present on shop floor – at a minimum, footwear, hearing and eyewear. Other equipment required depending on task.
