Document Control Technician - $1,000 Sign-on Bonus at II-VI Aerospace & Defense in Tustin, California

Limited time: $1,000 incentive, for continued employment with II-VI A&D, subject to the terms described.


  • $250 paid at 30 days of service completed
  • $250 paid at 60 days of service completed
  • $500 paid at 90 days of service completed

You must be employed on the dates specified to receive payment.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

The Document Control Technician function is to maintain the integrity of the Engineering Documentation Control program. Supports and interfaces with Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, Purchasing, Planning, and Quality functions. Administrates data filing, control, and retrieval and issuance system within the organization. Maintains all active document and/or drawing files and works within the company's records retention framework to transfer and retrieve archival material. Ensures the correct drawings, specifications, and procedures (at proper revision level and with proper associated documentation such as NORs, ECRs, ECOs, etc.) are available for electronic release with the Shop Order release packages created by the ME staff.

Works on assignments that are semi-routine in nature but may at times require intepretation or deviation from standard procedures. Supports Document Control Specialist on daily tasks.


  • Administer engineering drawing and documentation control in an efficient and timely fashion including retrieval and issuance system within the organization.
  • Responsible for successful documentation of new product designs and manufacturing processes in production.
  • Assists Document Control Specialist in developing, documenting and implementing new equipment and new process maintenance procedures.

Education & Experience

Typically requires an AA or equivalent in business, administration, or engineering.


  • Minimum 3 years of related experience in an office environment with administrative duties. Previous employment in a high technology company (optical-mechanical products/instrumentation) is preferred.

Skills


  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Familiarity with written technical/procedural formats.
  • Strong computer skills in word processing and spreadsheet software, including MS Word and Excel including creation of forms, sorting, and minimum advance functions of the use of formulas.
  • High level of proficiency in office systems operations, administration, and clerical procedures.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawing border/format information including number, description, revision, data fields, signatures, next a& used-on blocks, and revision fields.
  • Experience in both paper-based and computerized document control systems.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, adjust priorities effectively.
  • Must be able to work effectively with other team members.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow prescribed procedures.
  • Ability to work relatively independently, requiring moderate supervision.

Key experience, knowledge, or specialization that will enhance effectiveness in this position includes:


  • Knowledge of SolidWorks Viewer or other CAD Viewers is preferred
  • Basic understanding of ISO 9000 requirements is preferred
  • Ability to consistently and accurately complete daily work assignments per standard work instructions is a fundamental requirement, along with initiating communication (verbal and written) and applying corrections as required to clarify, complete or resolve data an compliance issues
  • Administer engineering drawing and documentation control in an efficient and timely fashion including retrieval and issuance system within II-VI A&D
  • Maintain accurate and complete records and be able to produce information when requested. Provides copies of drawings and documentation to authorized persons in a timely manner
  • Ensures the security of proprietary and government protected information at all times following all required procedures
  • Optical element cleaning, handling, and packaging
  • Assisting other engineers and technicians in alignment methods, error budgets, error analysis, and tools
  • Knowledge of thermal, mechanical, vibration, and shock effects on optical systems
  • Optical metrology and/or alignment instruments and techniques (interferometers, spectrophotometers, autocollimators, theodolites, measuring/toolmaker microscope, lasers, etc.)
  • Mechanical metrology instruments and techniques and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T Y14.5)
  • Knowledge of optical and mechanical materials and fabrication processes
  • Experience using CAD software; SOLIDWORKS experience preferred
  • Vendor/supplier sub-contract management including optics, mechanics, tooling fabrication, and optical coatings
