Prudential’s US Insurance & Retirement (USIR) businesses include our Retirement Strategies, Individual Life Insurance, Group Insurance and Retail Advice & Solutions businesses, as well as our Enabling Solutions (Service) and Financial Wellness capabilities.  Together, these businesses serve over six million retail and 20 million worksite customers across all demographic segments.  We also partner with nearly three thousand institutional clients and over 30 thousand third-party Financial Advisors.

The USIR Strategy team serves as a key partner to the CEO, USIR, as well as the various Business Unit Presidents and their senior leadership teams.  The Strategy team collaborates across the businesses to lead the development, prioritization, and implementation of a range of strategies and initiatives to drive profitable growth within each business.

Your Role:  Vice President, Strategy

We are seeking several dynamic leaders and strategists for the role of VP, Strategy.  In this role, you will lead the strategy work for one of the USIR businesses, including Individual Life Insurance, Group Insurance or Retirement Strategies (Institutional), reporting to the VP, Strategy for US Insurance and Retirement.  You will be expected to lead the development, prioritization, and implementation of a range of strategies and initiatives to drive profitable growth across your assigned business.

Success in this role will be built on your ability to form trusting relationships with senior executives while collaborating with partners across Prudential’s other businesses and functions, as well as the ability operate in a fast-paced, forward-looking business environment.

Location for this position is flexible.

Your Day-to-Day:  Key Responsibilities


  • Lead the creation and ongoing refinement of the overall strategy and strategic priorities for your assigned business (i.e., Individual Life, Group Insurance, or Retirement Strategies – Institutional.)

  • Drive the strategic initiative development and prioritization process. Partner across the senior leadership team (SLT) to develop and assess the strategic initiatives that will have greatest impact on the business and its customers, resulting in a strategic initiative backlog that is well understood and supported by the SLT.

  • Lead the development of strategy documents and communication materials, including business and strategic reviews to senior leaders, including Executive Leadership Team (ELT), US Management Committee (USMC) and the Board of Directors.

  • Provide strategy input and support for cross-business initiatives that support overall U.S. business strategy.  Collaborate across the USIR strategy team with respect to strategic topics and initiatives that span across USIR businesses and; also establish strong connections with other strategists across Prudential (e.g., Corporate Strategy, PGIM, Assurance IQ).

  • Support functional leaders with respect to developing and implementing functional strategies aligned with the overall strategic direction of Individual Life.

  • Identify new breakthrough business models (e.g., FinTech/Insurtech,) that present potential disruption and growth opportunities for Annuities.

  • Partner with Corporate Development (M&A) and Finance to develop and assess potential acquisitions.

  • Manage at least one direct report and larger cross-functional teams for specific projects.

Your Background:  Qualifications

Ideal candidates will possess many of the following qualifications:


  • 7-10 years of experience in corporate strategy or management consulting strategy roles, including experience in financial services

  • Strong industry knowledge (e.g., products, competitors, distributors)

  • Proven strength in creating positive working relationships and leading projects with heavy cross-business/cross-functional collaboration

  • Successful track record of leading teams, with a demonstrated ability to flex between strategy and tactics

  • Exceptionally strong analytic, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills

  • Proven verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to influence and drive change

  • Strong education credentials, including an undergraduate degree, with an M.B.A. or other advanced degree being a plus
