Position Overview: This is the first level of the Engineering classification. Provide engineering/technical expertise to solve problems in a specific area of expertise, with close supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop skills in their field of study, and the ability to work with greater independence.
Duties & Responsibilities
Under close supervision, in the area of expertise will provide
engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems
effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities
thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches

Evaluate the impact of Renewable/Distributed Generation (Solar PV, Wind, Battery Storage) interconnections on the power distribution grid.
Use Engineer software such as CYME or Synergi to perform thermal load studies along with voltage studies (Volt/Var & Flicker analysis).
Develop mitigation strategies to resolve any thermal loading or voltage issues.
Perform transformer inrush studies for the proposed Renewable Generation site’s generator step-up (GSU) transformer to evaluate any possible voltage issues.
Develop cost estimates for any distribution system upgrades needed to support the proposed Distributed Generation.
Develop Planning Scopes for third party developers that include the results and any violations of the thermal load study, voltage study, and the transformer inrush analysis.
Perform Arc Flash analysis at various points on the distribution grid to include: the bus/node on each circuit, as well as the secondary side of all distribution transformers on each circuit.
Provide recommendations for Personal Protective Equiment (PPE), Flame Resistant (FR) Clothing based on Arc Flash results.
Perform Protection & Coordination Studies of all power distribution devices.
Requirements
Graduation from a four-year ABET accredited college or university program with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles.
Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations.
Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Understanding of basic electricity and power quality.
Knowledge of Distribution construction standards and methods.
