Mechanical Engineer Drafting Intern (Fall 2021) at Garmin International in Olathe, Kansas

GPS Manufacturer/Distributor

We are seeking a part-time Engineering Drafting Intern for our headquarters in the greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for providing CAD drafting and modeling, testing, documentation and technical support.

Essential Functions

• Provide drafting support for Engineering, including detailed models and drawings in Solidworks, AutoCAD, and various other Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools


• Perform Bill of Material (BOM) maintenance, Engineering Change Order (ECO) drafting, and other documentation support for aviation engineers


• Conduct environmental and performance tests such as temperature, vibration, shock, and other environments


• Write test reports to document results of environmental and other tests


• Build prototypes and test fixtures for mechanical assemblies and troubleshoot mechanical systems

Basic Qualifications

• Completed coursework toward an Associate’s Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Computer Aided Drafting & Design, Electronics or related field OR equivalent relevant work experience


• Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)

Desired Qualifications

• Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)


• CAD knowledge and/or experience


• Problem solving skills


• PC/Windows environment experience
