Kleinschmidt has a full-time opening for a Senior Structural Engineer to manage people, projects, and client relationships, and to perform technical design for hydroelectric, fisheries, and water resources projects out of Essex, Connecticut. Who You Are

A licensed Professional Engineer with a BSCE and a minimum of 10 years' experience in structural engineering. Experience with hydroelectric design projects and fisheries-related or water resource projects is a plus. Specialty experience within the structural engineering discipline, such as seismic design or finite element modeling, is also a plus.

Knowledgeable: Knowledge of standards and codes applicable to the structural engineering discipline is required. Experience with analysis and design of concrete and steel structures in and around water, coordinating with hydrology/hydraulic and geotechnical engineers, and structural modeling software (MathCAD, RISA-3D, SAP2000, AutoCAD). The candidate should have experience working in the field with clients and contractors during planning and construction of projects. The candidate will also possess excellent problem-solving skills, oral and written communication skills to manage projects and clients. Familiarity with regulatory and permitting processes is a plus.

Project Manager: The candidate will have experience managing project teams that include junior and senior-level staff, drafters, and project coordinators. The candidate will have the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.

Relationship-Focused: Passion for mentoring junior-level staff. Demonstrates the ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team while applying engineering skills from analysis and design through to construction. Ability to establish long-lasting relationships with clients to assist them in solving complex engineering work, demonstrate the ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team while applying engineering throughout the longevity of the project.

Additional Requirements

• Must possess permanent authorization to work in the United States and able to acquire authorization to work in Canada


• Must be willing to travel and possess a valid driver's license

This position provides an opportunity to be a part of a team working on the design and management of hydroelectric and fisheries-related facilities, incorporating the skills of civil, structural, and hydraulic engineering projects. Client relationship management and business development are also integral with this position.
