The Facility Environmental Engineer/Coordinator will report directly to the facility General Manager and indirectly to the Director Environmental Compliance, Steel to manage the facilities environmental programs. This person will drive improvements based on applicable local, state and federal requirements, as well as Cleveland-Cliffs policies and procedures for superior environmental performance.
Responsibilities
Lead and maintain facility multi-media (air, water and waste) Environmental programs to ensure compliance with applicable environmental laws, regulations and permit requirements
Ensure tools/methods to assess facility compliance status are implemented, tracked, and adjusted as necessary
Oversee and lead incident investigations for environmental issues; collaborate with operating/maintenance/engineering and other appropriate resources to verify root causes and implementation of corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence
Monitor and report on environmental performance to facility management and corporate Environmental Affairs team
Complete environmental reports for federal, state and local agencies, including but not limited to, GHG Reporting, Title V Annual Certification, EPCRA, NPDES, Hazardous and Solid Waste reports, and spill reports
Interface with local, state and federal Environmental regulatory personnel
Maintain ISO 14001 facility certification
Provide technical direction and conduct environmental employee training and audits
Prepare federal, state, and local permit applications, conduct permitting review applicability of capital and maintenance projects, in collaborate with appropriate site and corporate environmental team members Translate environmental permit requirements into plant operating guidelines, and train personnel in compliance requirements
Implement voluntary programs addressing topics such as energy efficiency, waste minimization, GHG emissions reduction, and alternative energy use; oversee environmental projects including site remediation, and control systems installation and testing.
Collaborate with appropriate site and community relations team members to preserve the reputation of the enterprise
Comply with corporate Environmental Procedures and train facility staff as necessary on the Procedures
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, or Chemical Engineering
3-6 years Environmental management experience.
Operations/Maintenance Management in manufacturing environment.
Proficient in MS Office products.
Ability to work self-directed, prioritize work and handle multiple projects.
Possess excellent written and verbal skills.
Current working knowledge of State and Federal environmental Laws and regulations
Familiarity with CAA, CWA, RCRA including hazardous waste rules and inspection requirements
Familiarity with process industry operations
Preferred Requirements
Masters' Degree or higher in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Environmental Law
5-10 years implementation and management of Environmental Management Systems and Programs within the steel or similar heavy industry,
Experience maintaining ISO Certified Management Systems (ISO9000, ISO14001, etc.) in heavy manufacturing environment
Extensive working knowledge of both Federal and State environmental laws and regulations related to
steel or similar heavy industry
