Position Summary:


The HIM Systems Analyst will primarily support software applications, implementations, and the development of an ongoing support strategy within the Health Information Management (HIM) environment. Ideally, an HIM Systems Analyst will be able to leverage clinical and technical subject matter expertise with regard to workflows for end users such as MDs, NPs, Nurses, Clinical Technicians, etc.


HIM Systems Analysts must work collaboratively with all users of information systems, with all departments of the Samaritan Health Information Systems division, and all other departments and workgroups across Samaritan Health as necessary for the resolution of issues associated with information systems.


Educational Requirements/ Qualifications:


Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or Business or a commensurate level of education and work experience. Prior experience with Meditech Physician Documentation and Dragon Speech Recognition software Three to five years' healthcare experience strongly preferred. Two years Meditech or compatible systems experience is strongly preferred. Background as a Systems Analyst or a background within the HIM environment with both strong interest and aptitude in technology is preferred. Professional certification is desirable, but not required, and individual must demonstrate excellent logical reasoning, problem solving, communication, interpersonal, and computational abilities.


Also must possess:




  • Knowledge of the applications of concepts, tools, and techniques for system development lifecycle




  • Effective written, oral, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills for working closely with clinical stakeholders




  • Exemplary analytical and problem solving skills and work well in a team-oriented environment




  • Capable of managing multiple simultaneous projects and processes while maintaining a strong customer service orientation




  • Effective time management skills, proactive problem solving abilities, and be detail- and goal-oriented




  • Ability to respond to changing or shifting priorities, expectations, and timetables




  • Strong presentational skills and capable of performing well and creatively responding to tight deadlines and complex internal customer expectations




  • Knowledge of Office Suite


    Job Functions/Responsibilities:


    Consolidation and performance of analysis, design, developments, QA testing, validation and deployment of a HIM related software applications




  • Activities may include database building, programming, data collection and cataloging, process documentation, etc.




  • Maintain current understanding of the processes involved in these activities




  • Assess need for system reconfiguration based on user requests, making recommendations as appropriate




  • Assume responsibility for assigned applications


    Performing clinical, technical, service, and administrative tasks as necessary




  • Interact effectively with clinical end users and in-house IT professionals




  • Maintain membership on and communication with Samaritan Health committees, work groups, or task forces as necessary to facilitate ongoing information system development, deployments, and updates




  • Monitor system performance and report relevant anomalies, issues, or opportunities for improvement, provide recommendations as needed




  • Closely monitor event logs for diagnostic purposes


    Collaborate with HIM and IT leadership and end-user stakeholders to provide active communication and leadership for information system projects and portfolio management




  • Trains end users on features and operation of clinical information systems and critical roles in system operation




  • Assist in the creation of policies and procedures




  • Implement and maintain information system security and confidentiality policies and measures
