Laboratory Assistant - Clinical (30 hours/week) at Vancouver Clinic in Vancouver, Washington

Job Description:


    Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 including two doses of a 2-dose series or a single dose of a 1-dose series prior to start date. Fully vaccinated is defined as 14 days post series completion date.

    Process routine and STAT testing, specimen pickup, specimen accessioning, slide labeling, slide delivery to pathologists, slide and block filing and retrieval, temperature monitoring, and report archival. Ensure accurate and timely data entry, scanning, and faxing. Provide excellent customer service on the phone and in person to all patients, doctors and other medical staff. Ensure proper patient identification and labeling of specimens. Follow all clinic and laboratory policies and procedures. Perform CLIA waived and moderate complexity testing. Must be able to troubleshoot, prioritize specimens (STAT, ASAP, Routine, Pre-op, etc.), multitask, and be flexible in order to accommodate the needs of the laboratory.

    Clinical Lab:


    • Answer incoming telephone calls about laboratory tests and specimen requirements.


    • Prepares, delivers, and picks up items in accordance with health and safety regulations and laboratory policies to insure specimen integrity, quality patient care, and caregiver safety.


    • Collects and labels specimens for requested testing, processes specimen according to established guidelines and completes documentation for the specimen.


    • Performs data entry of patient demographics and tests ordered. Performs all paperwork, technical, and nontechnical procedures required to process and submit specimens.


    • Receives, handles, sorts, processes, or packages specimens.


    • Receives and makes telephone calls and uses computer terminal and reference guides to provide information and answer questions from clients and patients, regarding specimen requirements, test results and other client requests.


    • Performs waived and moderate complexity testing as assigned. Recognizes abnormal results and follows up as defined in standard operating procedures.


    • Performs other duties as assigned.


    • Order and unpack supplies.


    SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


    • Able to consistently demonstrate essential clinical competencies for this role and license/certification.


    • Ability to work under stressful conditions.


    • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.


    • Must be detail oriented and have strong organizational skills.


    • Must be able to distinguish colors and shades.


    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


    • High school diploma or equivalent required.


    • Minimum of two years' experience working in a healthcare, laboratory, and/or combination of education and experience in phlebotomy/lab sciences required.
