Job Description:

Senior Quality & EHS Manager

Reports to: Plant Manager

Location: Sumter, SC

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for developing, coordinating administering, and supervising the Plant's Quality Assurance program, quality control procedures and policies. Assures that all products manufactured meet customer specifications and in support of company objectives.

The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) aspect directs the development, implementation, and maintenance of an environmental, health and safety management program. and ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

This position is also responsible for the development, design, implementation, and monitoring of all SKF policies and procedures, and the ISO 14001, ISO 9002:2015, ISO 450001 and OHSAS 18001 program requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):


  • Directs and coordinates the overall quality specifications for processes and finished products.

  • Develops quality control plans or process control procedures.

  • Responsible for establishing testing policies and procedures that will meet the quality control needs of the organization.

  • Reviews all complaints received from customers to determine where quality control emphasis should be placed at the plants.

  • Reviews research on product defects and recommends modifications where warranted.

  • Directs the ISO certification and associated programs to ensure the Plants annual ISO certification.

  • Assists other departments in establishing standards for initial production.

  • Provides technical assistance to the Purchasing Department for raw materials, supplies and equipment.

  • Contacts and/or visits customers and suppliers when necessary to confer and assist in establishing inspection standards on specific quality problems

  • Supplies technical assistance to the sales and/or marketing functions.

  • Ensures compliance with government regulations.

  • Formulates department objectives and directs staff activities to meet Company objectives.

  • Administers Department budget preparation.

  • Responsible for keeping the plant current with technology changes.

  • Responsible for coordinating gauging procedures between plants and customers.

  • Performs accident management activities and identifies, implements, and tracks corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Maintains injury records in accordance with government regulations and corporate practices.


  • Performs hazard assessments and other EHS evaluations.

  • Works with corporate staff, site personnel and insurers to manage risk. Also serves as the point of contact for local and federal agencies.

  • Secures, revises and/or maintains applicable environmental and hazardous materials permits.

  • Chairs the EHS Committee and Ergonomic Committee.

  • Develops, implements, and maintains employee training programs related to health, safety, and the environment.

  • Responsible for developing appropriate emergency plans and response capabilities. Available to respond to emergencies during off-hours (evenings, weekends, holidays).

  • Selects, develops, and evaluates applicable EHS contracts to ensure the efficient operation.

  • Ensure accident / incident investigations are conducted to determine their causes and take appropriate corrective action as required.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety legislative requirements.

  • Maintains positive working relationships with Regulatory Agency Personnel.

Minimum Education/Experience Required:


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or related technical field

  • (5-7) years in a supervisory capacity of applicable experience in Quality Assurance and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in health and safety.

  • Must have broad and in-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes and techniques, quality control, technology, EHS, and data processing.

  • Ability to relate, communicate, and interact effectively with various levels and organizations.
