LOCATION: Stafford, VA


STATUS: Open, Funded


TRAVEL: Negligible


CLEARANCE: Eligible to obtain an active Secret clearance

DESCRIPTION: In this position, the Engineer will work on the safety aspects of design, development, implementation and analysis of technical products and systems. The Engineer will work within a client group or in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) of a Research and Development (R&D), production, manufacturing, and/or quality (test and evaluation) nature, in a fast paced work environment.


Primary duties will include (but not limited to):



  • Utilize mathematical, technological, and/or engineering knowledge in order to develop safety documentation defined by the Customer, in a timely manner and a professional quality level.

  • Utilize experience in the field in order to lead efforts within the team and proactively provide a higher-than-expected satisfaction to the Customer.

  • Clearly communicate safety engineering concepts to other team members (e.g. Logisticians, Program Managers) as part of integrated product development.

  • Assist in organizing, analyzing, interpreting and verifying engineering data collected from various engineering events, processes and products, to ensure accuracy and usefulness of such information.

  • Recommends safety improvements to current engineering products and processes, based on objective analysis of available data.

  • Provide engineering input into interdisciplinary documentation, as requested.

  • Collect and analyze data for both internal and external product failures leading toward mishap reduction and process improvement.

  • Evaluate and communicate test status and results..

  • Obtains and maintains any security clearances, statuses or licenses required by client to perform work.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Maintains regular onsite work schedule.



KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:



  • Capable of providing safety analysis on systems, system elements, interfacing systems, components, devices and/or processes.

  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities to provide technical, and scientific knowledge of the safety discipline.

  • With minimum supervision, is capable of implementing the systems engineering process across the program acquisition life cycle.

  • Works as a member of team and assists with solving complex problems. Familiar with related IEEE, NEMA, and Mil-STD safety regulation and requirements, familiar with EMI/EMC, grounds and bounds concepts and associated MIL-STD requirements (MIL-STD 461/464), identification of Environment, Safety, and Occupational Health (ESOH) responsibilities and risks, experience with implementing safety procedures in an electrostatic environment, familiar with AC/DC power concepts and safety operation procedures regarding Military power production equipment (i.e. Tactical Quiet Generator and Renewable Power Sources), identification of Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT), experience with writing Safety Assessment Report (SAR), PESHE and NEPA documentation.

  • Be able to identify operational risks in testing and/or real world scenarios. Familiarity with specific hazards associated with Heavy Equipment and Powered Industrial Truck use (OSHA standards).

  • Ability to research, analyze, and evaluate information.

  • Ability to express ideas effectively orally and in writing.

  • Ability to work with large amounts of data.

  • Knowledgeable with Microsoft Office.



EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:



  • BS or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent, from an institution with an professional engineering curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), with 0-2 (I)/2-5 (II) years relevant experience.

This is sedentary work which requires the following physical activities: sitting, reaching, sifting, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity. Occasionally lift up to 20 lbs.
