Director of Sales and Marketing

The role of Director of Sales and Marketing is an amazing opportunity to guide Fairmont El San Juan Hotel into a new era that entails recapturing the glory of old Puerto Rico while also leveraging the dynamic aspects of the Hotel and Puerto Rico. Success in this role will result in re-establishing our status as the leading hotel on the island.

With a strong focus on Luxury, Lifestyle and Destination marketing, combined with strong Sales expertise, the DOSM will lead a large team of market experts in maximizing performance for the Hotel. This includes overseeing the generation of all revenues consistent with hotel and company objectives; implementation of sales performance management systems; coordination of hotel's participation in local, regional, national and international advertising; and direction of all media and publicity events.

What you will be doing:

Essential functions of the position include but are not limited to:


  • Performs as an effective member of the Executive Committee.
  • Directs all sales and marketing initiatives for the hotel, coordinating with the F&B marketing team.
  • Takes an active role in Ownership relations.
  • Prepares and administers the hotel's Marketing Plan and Budget to achieve the revenue goals.
  • Participates as a leader in Revenue Management to ensure that maximum revenues/yields are achieved.
  • Plays a valuable role in the development of the Strategic Plan and the education of all members of the team to this direction.
  • Develops, energizes and leads a motivated, competent and cohesive team consistent with the Hotel, Regional and Corporate needs through implementation of approved Talent and Culture and Sales Programs.
  • Maintains open communication with Global Sales Offices, Corporate Sales Office and Regional Office teams.
  • Entertains existing and potential clients with regularity.


    Sales focus:

  • Provide guidance and direction in the development of segment action plans to achieve all goals (total revenue, RevPar Index, Colleague engagement and others).
  • Has the responsibility for setting individual Room Revenue/Night Goals (Quota's).
  • Identifies market trends and new opportunities and implementing strategies to address them
  • Provides guidance and direction in the development of segment action plans
  • Responsible for quarterly management of the Sales Incentive Program.
  • Ensures the integrity of key account/key prospect database and monitors staff input for accuracy, thoroughness and coverage of local area.
  • Prepares weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports as required.
  • Provides on-going direction and development support to all direct reports by ensuring appropriate sales training programs are in line with individual career objectives and by providing guidance and direction in the development of segment action plans.

Marketing focus:


  • Works closely with Hotel Marketing team to maximize impact in:

    • Full scope digital marketing, working closely with DRM to support OTA
    • Campaigns/paid placements/partnerships
    • Promotional materials/collateral/digital assets
    • Social media
    • Sales and Revenue support
    • Reporting, marketing plans and budgets

  • Directs the activities of outside agencies and internal staff on local and in-house advertising campaigns
  • Works closely with F&B leadership to align priorities, ensuring high level of activation and visibility in the marketplace
  • Coordinates and promotes with the third party Spa, Retail and F&B operators
  • Takes an active role in Regional and Island Tourism Partnerships
  • Has ongoing personal involvement in community events, creating them as required

Your experience and skills include:


  • 10 years hotel sales experience, of which at least five have been at the Director level or above.

  • Strong background in Destination marketing, Social Media and Revenue management.

  • Experience in Resort/Island destination.

  • Experience with all key market segments - Group, Leisure, and Corporate.

  • Formal university/college education, hotel management degree preferred.

  • Highly energetic with demonstrated exceptional organizational and communication skills.

  • Strong ability to understand and interpret financial data

  • Is creative and able to see potential "stories" in property and area

  • Ability to build strong relationships and interact at all levels of the organization.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and Spanish and English, required

  • Strong interpersonal and problem solving abilities
