Big West Oil is looking for a rotating equipment reliability engineer to lead our efforts to improve equipment and unit reliability. This position will require significant leadership efforts to bring refinery maintenance, operation, and project practices and skills up to pace-setting levels.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
Support a safety and reliability focused culture
Provide daily rotating equipment and mechanical systems technical support to all refinery departments, such as Operations, Maintenance, Process, Projects, etc.
Develop and champion the Bad Actor program
Develop, implement, and lead proactive predictive and preventive maintenance programs such as vibration analysis, lubrication application and testing, infrared inspection, etc.
Develop and track Key Performance Indicators such as Equipment Life Cycle Costs, Availability, Reliability, MTBR, etc.
Recommend and support plant reliability and capital projects by preparing equipment specifications, reviewing project designs and basis, assisting with project justification, etc.
Serve as technical expert and steward of the pump and seal reliability improvement efforts.
Support maintenance repair activities by developing work processes and quality assurance/control standards.
Develop and steward an equipment spare parts stocking strategy.
Assist with capital and expense budget development especially as related to rotating equipment.
Provide after-hour and weekend call out craft supervision and troubleshooting support on a rotating schedule basis.
Understand and interpret equipment related codes, standards, regulations
Remain aware of new rotating equipment technology for potential applications.
Must be able to work independently to achieve targeted results

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Minimum 2 years of experience in an industrial environment (refinery/petrochemical preferred) with a focus on rotating equipment, condition monitoring, and reliability methods.
Strong knowledge of rotating equipment engineering principles relating to pumps, compressors, turbines, gearboxes, etc.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of field practices including overhaul, balancing, and alignment methods.
Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
Experience with Windows Microsoft office programs.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Familiarity with applicable codes and standards such as ASTM, ASME, ANSI, API (especially 610 and 686), etc.
Experience troubleshooting, performing root cause failure analysis and experience on centrifugal pumps, centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, and API seal plan arrangements preferred.
Experience and certification in vibration monitoring and analysis preferred.
Experience with tracking rotating equipment MTBR preferred.
Experience with centrifugal pump seal retrofits from the engineering concept to the actual execution completion preferred.
Experience with reliability statistical analysis and modeling preferred.
Experience with Bently-Nevada System 1, Maximo CMMS, etc. preferred.
