Job Summary: 

The Network Engineer will assist in the day-to-day functionality of the Network while providing analysis, troubleshooting, and communication with the network team. The Network Engineer will provide support to the Network Services Manager on an on-going basis.

Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Maintains routine data network hardware and systems; investigates, resolves and/or escalates network and hardware matters of significance; research, analyzes and isolates errors; assists in assessing and updating older networks as needed and in accordance with specified plans.

  • Provides first line of technical support on data networks for internal and/or external customers; answers routine technical questions; recommends and implements approved course of action.

  • Installs and maintains data network including hardware and software.

  • Assists in design, implementation and maintenance of LAN and WAN networks in accordance with specified requirements

  • Prepares data network diagrams and drawings to document and assist in communicating current operation status of networks.

  • Performs data network configuration and configuration changes of various data network equipment such as routers, switches, intelligent hubs, multi-function switches…etc.

Required Skills/Abilities:


  • Some hands-on experience in configuring switches

  • Ability to allow end devices to interface with the network by configuring layer 2 access and trunk switchports

  • Strong understanding of the purpose and configuration of virtual LANs (VLANs).

  • Ability to configure and review spanning tree

  • Ability to look up Mac addresses and identify adjacent Network devices

  • Ability to create Switch virtual interfaces (SVI)

  • Ability to interpret routing tables on end devices and layer 3 switches

  • General understanding of stateful firewalls

  • Ability to configure access lists

  • Any Cisco, network or security certification is preferred.

 

Education and Experience:


  • 2+ years of experience is required. Degree concentration in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field is desired.

  • Good knowledge of network routing and switching protocols

  • Good understanding of firewalls and firewall rule contexts

  • Thorough understanding and/or experience with Variable Length sub-netting

  • Good understanding of OSI layers Prepares change request documentation as per customer requirements.

  • Strong background in IPV4 layer 3 and layer 2 switching

  • Enterprise experience is a must

Physical Requirements:


  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
