HOW YOU WILL DO IT

As the Director - Global Test Engineering you will be responsible for the application of technology and standard work in our range of manufacturing test engineering disciplines to enable Operational Excellence and to drive consistent customer services. This role takes accountability for the following core functional areas: Product Manufacturing Test, Process Manufacturing Test, Ergonomics, Reliability and Manufacturing Test Strategy and Engineering Solutions/Vendor Integration. Serve as the Global Functional Manager for Manufacturing Test Engineering in Manufacturing Solutions.

Key Job Accountabilities:


  • Develop and maintain a Community of Practice (CoP) at the global, regional and site levels. Leverage the CoP to develop and effectively execute the strategy. Use the CoP to obtain stakeholder input on various issues and as a conduit to implement initiatives, standard work and functional management responsibilities at the regional and local levels

  • Articulate a guiding vision to create a strong global manufacturing team Engineering team. Provide overarching policy and guidance for professional and technical development of Manufacturing Test Engineers. Collaborate with Training and Development experts to define training and education needs; ensure training is created and delivered.

  • Build flexible time-standard, costing, and operational models that enable clear measures of productivity, optimized ergonomics and minimization of non-value added activities.

  • Deliver a standardized approach for Manufacturing Test Engineering. Provide policy and guidance to ensure Manufacturing Test Engineering delivers operational excellence as a foundation to delivering customer service excellence while growing Plexus' profitable revenue. Develop and deploy standard practices and tools for the conduct of Manufacturing Test Engineering. Drive alignment of Manufacturing Test Engineering practices across regions. Ensure best practices are shared and adopted across regions.

  • Own, develop and deploy a Test Engineering strategy to deliver Customer Service Excellence and Operational Excellence. Communicate the strategy to ensure alignment and unity of purpose across all of Manufacturing Solutions. Drive strategy execution; establish and monitor metrics to assess effectiveness.

  • Accountable to execute on Plexus' Best People strategy, leaders will focus on evaluating potential, driving succession planning and ensuring that their employees receive the development and coaching required to realize their full potential.

Additional Accountabilities:


  • Present the Plexus' manufacturing capabilities and roadmaps to customers in a marketable manner.

  • Perform periodic performance reviews and work load analysis to assure adequate staffing, and provide appropriate resources to support expected job performance.

  • Interface with site, regional and corporate engineering leadership to ensure appropriate alignment of global objectives and development of talent

  • Establish software integration strategies and implementation plans to increase productivity and reduce the manufacturing escapes.

  • Occasional travel may be required to meet the needs of the business (estimated 15%).

What we are looking for:


  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required; a Master's degree in Engineering is preferred.

  • Seven years of related experience is required.

  • Detailed knowledge of manufacturing test principals through training and/or hands on experience is necessary for success in this role.

  • Extensive understanding of manufacturing flow and lean manufacturing principles is required.
