Job Description:

Academic Advisor II advises students on academic programs, and works closely with students in an effort to help select, outline, and achieve educational and developmental goals.

DUTIES


  1. Advises new, transfer, and continuing students on academic matters such as course selection and degree declaration

  2. Communicates university policies and procedures

  3. Coordinates with web developers to maintain and update degree plans on university and department websites

  4. Maintains and updates the system's major declaration list

  5. May assist with First Time in College (FTIC) and transfer orientation

  6. May monitor students' academic progress

  7. May assist with the development and implementation of advising workshops

MARGINAL DUTIES


  1. Performs duties that are unique to a specific college

  2. Performs all other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge:


  1. Knowledge of all courses, co-requisites, and pre-requisites offered at the University

  2. May be required to have knowledge of TSI policies

  3. Knowledge of trends, issues, and accepted practices relevant to the position

Skills:


  1. Candidates must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Abilities:


  1. Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse university community

WORK LOCATION AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Primary Work Location:  Works in an office environment

Physical Demands: Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment that does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements. The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. Occasional lifting, pushing, climbing, and pulling may be required. The work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks
