Overview

FRESH New London (freshnewlondon.org) is a small food justice non-profit located in New London, CT. Our mission is to build momentum for food system change through local agriculture and youth empowerment. We use food to connect to the community, encourage leadership, inspire stewardship and incite change. FRESH is focused on urban farming, community gardening and youth, as a way to build resiliency in our City and to inspire more people to take part in the community food system.

FRESH New London is a fiscally-sponsored organization of TSNE (tsne.org).

Responsibilities

FRESH New London is partnering with the Health Improvement Collaborative to coordinate a weekly food pantry that will continue to address Covid related food insecurity in New London, to share the lessons and strengths of the project with regional partners and to assess the gaps in service and values of the emergency food system in New London and southeastern Connecticut.

Essential Functions
  • Oversee all aspects of the operations of the Food to the People distribution;
  • Order food for pantry, monitor nutritional content, track inventory, and receive weekly deliveries, keep budget for foods ordered, and other statistic details;
  • Monitor annual program spending allocation as instructed by Director;
  • Oversee recruitment, retention, and training of volunteers. Track all volunteer participation;
  • Maintain calendar of staff and volunteers;
  • Grant writing to support programs, as needed;
  • Works to established gaps and duplication in the food security system within geographical areas identified by the HIC and FRESH NL;
  • Assist in the establishment of a Food Justice Team of the HIC;
  • Participate in regional partnership meetings and projects, as needed;
  • Attend HIC meetings as needed


Qualifications

  • Experience facilitating a weekly emergency food distribution program that aligns with the values and expectations of FRESH and the Health Improvement Collaborative;
  • Ability to work independently, while being mindful of FRESH's larger organizational work;
  • Understanding of racial and social justice principles and how to apply them in pantry settings;
  • High level of organization and accountability;
  • Positive attitude and energy;
  • Ability to work in different environments;
  • Interest in developing interpersonal relationships;
  • Working knowledge of FRESH Urban Farm and FRESH Programs;
  • Strong drive to learn and practice good communication; work with team and community members respectfully and with patience;
  • Interest in working with diverse populations - different ages and various economic, social and political backgrounds;
  • Qualities of self-motivation, time management, flexibility and cooperation;
  • Successful Driver's License and Background Check.

Compensation and Benefits

Location: Work will be primarily performed at F.R.E.S.H New London, CT.

Compensation: The pay for this position is $28.00/hr.
