Job Summary

This role supports and/or leads targeted projects in coordination with the Midwest and West Coast Major Gifts teams, as part of the Chicago Booth Advancement Team. Reports to Director, West Coast and takes direction from the Director, Midwest and gift officers on the Midwest and West Coast Major Gifts team to help the larger Booth Advancement Team meet its goals.

The Development Associate will help gift officers effectively utilize Booth leadership to help meet fundraising goals, and will create itineraries and briefings for Deputy Deans and faculty as needed. They will also assist gift officers with prospect cultivation and appropriate engagement, and proactively track donor stewardship.
The Development Associate will provide information in response to specific requests, direct calls and other relevant information to appropriate individuals while using discretion and judgment with confidential information. They will develop a network of professional contacts and provide advisory assistance to other Booth and University offices that seek it. The Development Associate is encouraged to initiate projects that will be beneficial to the Advancement Team, and is expected to anticipate next steps and follow-up related to fundraising activity and active prospect management.


  • Assists with implementation of regional strategy, planning and executing Advancement-focused events, and collaborating with University colleagues and volunteers to advance the philanthropic and engagement goals of Chicago Booth.

  • In collaboration with the Prospect Management team, shares relevant reports to assist gift officers in active prospect management. Updates Griffin, the alumni and donor database of records, by creating prospect actions and maintaining solicitation data, strategy, and next steps.

  • Assists gift officers in reaching visit goals by helping with trip planning and tracking, as well as conducting visit outreach for gift officers' qualification meetings.

  • Leads the planning and execution of West Coast- and Midwest-based advancement events and contributes to the strategic development of new events and programs; staff events as needed. Manages event follow-up with attendees and identifies potential new prospects.

  • Participates in prospect strategy development as it relates to prospect qualification, cultivation, stewardship, etc. Assists in the preparation of prospect briefings, travel agendas and materials for gift officers, deans, and Chicago Booth leadership.

  • Provides support for prospecting, cultivating, stewarding, and possibly soliciting donor prospects, as needed.

  • Run custom database reports upon request.

  • In conjunction with the Development Associate in New York, continues to build and manage a set of communication pieces (fundraiser toolkit) to enable the frontline work of gift officers on the major gift and leadership giving teams. Assists in producing a set of internal communications for the Individual Giving Teams. Partner cross-functionally with the Communications and the Centers Teams.

  • Has a moderate/solid understanding of fundraising operations for a school or department of the University. Identifies budget requirements and staffing needs on a project or event basis.

  • Cultivates and maintains relationships with donors and volunteers. Establishes and maintains donor records and accounts.

  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications


Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.



Preferred Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree

  • Advanced degree.


  • A minimum of one year of work experience in nonprofit management, development, alumni relations, marketing, public relations, or similar work.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated skill and knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn the internal workings of the University and the technology tools available to Chicago Booth staff required, including Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.

  • Learn and manipulate Booth databases.
