Summary of Duties:
Washington State University Office of Professional Education conducts the annual Sewing & Stitchery Expo (Expo). Expo is seeking an Education Manager for the largest consumer sewing show in the nation, held in Puyallup, Washington. Expo has an average attendance of 23,000 people who come from all over the world to take part in this one of a kind education and vendor exhibition. Attendees can gain hands-on experience with the latest techniques and trends the sewing world has to offer. More than 100 daily seminars are taught by industry experts to enhance the attendees' knowledge, skill, and entrepreneurial endeavors. The Education Manager is responsible for the coordination and management of program and seminar development; and subsequent implementation of the event. The Education Manager is also responsible for developing additional educational opportunities related to, but separate from, Expo to continue opportunities for participants throughout the year.
The position involves close contact with multiple key stakeholders within and outside the University including Clothing and Textile Advisors of Washington, industry guilds and associations, volunteers, vendors, local and national businesses and collaboration with Professional Education teammates. This position will be a crucial position leading all education and training for volunteers.
The Education Manager role consists of:
Recruitment and retention of sewing industry related teachers and vendors
Schedule management for 100+ seminars during Expo and seminars throughout the year
Delivering and evaluating program results
Budget and financial management
Website and database management
Social media planning and execution
Updating and upholding policies and procedures
Volunteer and planning committee management including meeting, training and development of materials
Expo staff and volunteer supervision
The Education Manager works in parallel with the assigned Conference Manager to ensure that planning and budget adjustments are made in accordance with program goals and objectives. The assigned Conference Manager will work directly with the Education Manager to execute the exhibitor side of the seminar instructor expectations.
This is a hybrid position, predominantly teleworking with the requirement to live within reasonable driving distance of Puyallup, WA
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant extension program discipline and three (3) years of related experience in the program specialty. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. Prefer a Masters Degree with three (3) years related experience. Demonstrated teaching experience and evaluating community projects and experience in preparing educational materials for low literacy and diverse populations.

Demonstrated ability to clearly and effectively lead the work of others to excellent outcomes

Demonstrated ability to use electronic communication methods and computer programs including web browsers, WordPress, Microsoft Office
Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule.
Must possess, or be able to obtain at time of hire, a valid driver's license.
As a hybrid position, while working remotely, must provide own reliable, high-speed internet able to sustain work needs
Masters Degree with three (3) years related experience.
Experience and education in the clothing and textiles industry
Current presence in the sewing and stitchery industry
Past or current leadership and involvement in sewing and stitchery industry programs and events
Experience trend tracking and implementation of industry ideas and practices
Well-versed knowledge of additional related sub-industries
