Job Summary:

The purpose of the EHS Coordinator is to plan, organize and control the safety and environmental functions of the plant to ensure that an effective accident prevention program is maintained and that appropriate measures are taken to comply with corporate, OSHA, EPA and related safety policies and directives

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Excellent organizational, multi-tasking and prioritizing skills. Communicate honestly and provide solutions to problems in a timely fashion.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

The work environment is representative of those in both a standard manufacturing office environment and a standard machine shop environment. When in the plant environment typical exposure could include the following working conditions: extreme heat and cold, noise vibrations, oils, and atmospheric conditions such as dust, fumes and metallic particles.

Primary Functional Responsibilities:
  • Determines appropriate safety equipment and safe work practices to be employed on specific jobs based on OSHA and corporate standards and implements accordingly through plant management.
  • Observes workers and work practices to ensure that protective devices and safe work procedures are used.
  • Tracks safety KPI's and prepares and submits reports as required
  • Monitors compliance with environmental permits and regulations.
  • Initiates and ensures investigations of accidents and unsafe working conditions, compiling statistical data and providing remedial actions to achieve effective accident prevention and avoidance of losses; completes documentation for Workers Comp and Corporate EHS tracking.
  • Coordinates meetings of the plant safety committee and ensures that coordinated safety training and motivational campaigns are conducted in association with company policies.
  • Acts as liaison with government agencies and serves as plant management representative in case of inquiries and inspections to correct deficiencies and to minimize citations and fines for noncompliance.
  • Ensures that applicable environmental permits are current and up to date.
  • Acts as plant liaison with inspectors of insurance carriers. Determines management's position on inspectors' recommendations and prepares written response accordingly.
  • Keeps abreast of OSHA and corporate safety regulations and standards applicable to the manufacturing facility; communicates with and/or trains employees to the extent appropriate to achieve understanding and compliance of same.
  • Develops and prepares plant safety procedures and rules, ensures their communication to those affected, and audits for compliance.
  • Provides assistance to supervisors regarding the evaluation of safety problems and of employee safety recommendations and complaints; determines and applies acceptable corrective measures.


Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree Environmental Health & Safety,Engineering or other related fields with some emphasis in industrial safety programs or equivalent
  • 5-7 years related work experience
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and experience with regulatory reporting
  • Understanding of steel manufacturing processes
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to lead others
  • Ability to document/record Information in written or electronic form
  • Ability to research safety topics using the internet
  • Ability to travel for training, audits, etc.
