DUTIES:
Under direct but not constant supervision, to do assigned work as required, at the General Office
Buildings, the City and County Operating Centers, the record storage building, and other locations that
might be assigned. As directed to perform such work when working alone or with Electrical Building
Mechanics, HVAC Building Mechanics or Building Service Mechanics:
Assemble the materials and equipment required to do the job.
Understand and follow all safety procedures, including but not limited to; arc flash, LOTO,
confined space, working from heights, etc. Take necessary steps to insure that safety devices are
available and applied as required for each job.
Maintain, repair and clean all parts of the electrical systems, etc. In this connection, make
removals of or additions to the systems as required.
Maintain, repair, install, remove, clean and oil all types of other miscellaneous equipment,
including but not limited to; fans, motors, cleaning equipment, A/V equipment projectors,
radios, sound recording devices, office furniture and accessories, office equipment, and clocks.
Maintain, repair, remove or add to all portions of the structures assigned, including but not
limited to; floors, doors, locks, door checks, trim walls, windows, plaster, brick and concrete, etc.
In this connection remove partitions or erect new ones, complete with all trim.
Fabricate as required, miscellaneous items of all types and materials, such as cabinets, scaffolds,
platforms, shelving, racks, bins, boxes, furniture, etc. Make keys.
Maintain, repair, clean, oil and maintain miscellaneous garage operating equipment as installed
in the various garages. In addition, maintain and repair overhead cranes, loading dock
equipment, gates, and overhead doors.
Operate various equipment, to provide proper service to the buildings. Observe, start and stop
motors, fans, pumps, understand and operate building automation systems, etc.
At regular intervals as assigned, make a complete check of all motors, fans etc., at the various
locations; make routine adjustments on equipment and check for defects.
Operate and drive trucks, lifts and other vehicles assigned to the department.
SPECIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for adherence to safety rules and the use of appropriate protective equipment to ensure
safety of him/herself and coworkers.
For maintaining good workmanship and careful inspection to prolong the useful life of the equipment
assigned.
For regular inspection tours of equipment to discover adverse conditions and prevent damage.
For prudent use and care for vehicles, tools, equipment, and material to prevent damage to structures
or property
CONTACTS:
With contractors and building inspectors on routine matters.
With employees of various departments concerning maintenance work.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Extensive general physical activity, including but not limited to; kneeling, bending, standing for long
periods
Noise, dust, respirator use, excessive temperatures, fumes, smoke, gases, solvents, silica, asbestos,
electrical energy, mechanical energy, slippery surfaces, ladders, scaffolding, outside work, working from
heights, working in cramped conditions, etc.
HAZARDS:
Potential health and safety hazards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or successful completion of a recognized high school equivalency
examination, and a "Recommended" score on the CAST Test.
Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator license (Missouri "E" license or Illinois "D"
license).
Good working knowledge of standard practice and safety rules and must be careful, accurate, alert,
thorough and observant.
Demonstrate the ability to handle general maintenance work and the ability to read and understand
blue prints and write clear legible work reports.
Associate degree in Industrial Electricity or equivalent (approved by the Company) from a Company
approved college or trade school. Verification of satisfactory completion will be required. Satisfactorily
completed shall mean a "C" average or above in the program. Or successful completion of an IBEW
NECA Apprentice program.
At least two years' work experience as a Journeymen Electrician or in the building maintenance field.
Additionally, within three (3) years after acceptance into this position the employee must successfully
complete the following:
Associate degree in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration or equivalent (approved by
the Company) from a Company approved college or trade school. Must secure and maintain universal
certification.
Note: 1) The employee must be enrolled, and remain enrolled in classes within nine (9) months of
starting the job. 2) Verification of satisfactory completion will be required. 3) Satisfactorily completed
shall mean a "C" average or above in the program
Completion of a Company developed OJT training program.
