Job Description:

Summary:


The Lead Test Engineer interfaces, as needed, with Project Management, Application Development, appropriate business personnel and management.  This position is accountable for ensuring that all testing work items are delivered in a quality manner. This includes delivery without critical defects, in accordance with the established schedule, with the highest degree of accuracy and quality.  This position plans and executes required testing for systems and applications, while collaborating with team members on test plans and test case creation and execution.  This position requires a solid understanding of testing methodologies including application and web testing, data engineering, security, performance, and automated testing as demand indicates.


Essential Responsibilities/Accountabilities:


Level I




  • Coordinates testing responsibilities and prioritization, test plan creation, and test team meetings for projects.




  • Attends core team meetings as a lead representative, providing testing and defect progress updates, in addition to risk and mitigation information.




  • Acts as a representative for the testing organization, sharing project status, resolving barriers to testing progress, and raising any risks or issues with projects.




  • Performs application and system testing functions including test data creation, functional, regression, and complete workflow testing. 




  • Develops and maintains manual and automated test cases, test procedures/scripts, and/or test data for all testing functions.




  • Completes analysis against requirements and technical specifications to build appropriate test plans and data.




  • Analyzes, reviews, and interprets business requirements and system documentation to ensure quality test case coverage, with minimal risk.




  • Maintains subject matter expertise of customer processes and how they are supported by system.




  • Documents and works to resolve all testing problems, raising risks or issues to the project team and leadership as they occur.




  • Develops, maintains, and executes manual test cases for feature testing, performance, security, and regression. 




  • Recommends and implements opportunities for productivity and process improvements.




  • Effectively balances work on multiple projects, ensuring testing activities complete on time.




  • Stays current on new tools and technologies, continuously looking for opportunities to improve.

Level II - In addition to level I responsibilities:




  • Mentors less experienced test leads in specific business knowledge areas or testing techniques.




  • Provides testing leadership to the organization, serving as an informal leader for process improvement efforts.




  • Researches and recommends opportunities for implementing advanced testing techniques, metric tracking and automation improvements.




  • Acts as a subject matter expert with testing methodologies.




  • Develops, defines, and implements test standards and guidelines.




  • Recommends test solutions and strategies that ensure quality, to senior management and the architecture council while recognizing productivity opportunities.



 


Minimum Qualifications:

Level I


 




  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or relevant field (or four additional years related work experience in lieu of bachelors).




  • Four years related work experience.




  • Knowledge of testing requirements and standards.




  • Understanding of business requirements and use cases.




  • Knowledge of testing distributed, open systems; or web applications.




  • Knowledge of test plans, test cases, procedures, and test scripts.




  • Knowledge of software testing tools.




  • Technical knowledge in products/technologies which are relevant to the testing solution.




  • Understanding of application and infrastructure components (hardware & software).




  • Experience working directly with business users.




  • Practical knowledge and experience in all phases of software QA.




  • Experience with testing at various levels (unit, functional, integration, system, load and performance testing).




  • Experience working with iterative, waterfall, and agile methodologies.




  • Demonstrated experience in testing automation, programming and debugging knowledge.




  • Demonstrated ability to work on complex projects and/or multiple project testing efforts concurrently.




  • Ability to understand/write more complex Data Driven test scenarios, workflow testing, user stories, and Gherkin.




  • Effectively interprets, analyzes and communicates test results to business, engineering, development, and management. 


     


    Level II - requires similar qualifications as level I, plus:




  • Eight years related work experience.




  • Ability to hold a lead role in managing large and/or multiple project testing efforts.




  • Demonstrated ability to identify root cause problems and determine innovative sources for solutions and opportunities.




  • Demonstrated ability to drive complex testing solutions to completion.
