Westminster Communities of Florida, a nationally recognized not-for-profit faith based organization is searching for an Accounting Manager – Accounting & Reporting.  Founded in 1954, Westminster Communities of Florida is a national leader in senior living and dedicated to a Mission and ministry of service to older adults. We provide senior living communities offering an active lifestyle and excellent care to 7,000 residents throughout Florida. Our communities offer independent living, assisted living, nursing care, home care, pharmacy services, affordable housing for low-income seniors and more.

The Accounting Manager position is responsible for the accounting & reporting of the Life Plan Communities. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, managing and coordinating all accounting functions for the responsibilities assigned in accordance with GAAP, government regulations and internal policies.

 Specific functions of the position include but are not limited to:


  • Oversee the monthly accounting close of Life Plan Communities, driving close to timely completion and ensuring completeness and accuracy.

  • Lead day to day accounting activities, including preparation and/or review of journal entries, intercompany transactions, cash management, account reconciliations, etc.

  • Responsible for planning, scheduling, organization, and decision-making for the Manager’s department. Manage workflow to ensure even and accurate distribution of workload to maximize productivity and performance.

  • Directly manages a team of Accountants, including training and review of their work. Guides and mentors the team, conducting regular career conversations and crafting opportunities for development and growth.

  • Coordinate with VP, the organization and preparation of the annual review of the accounting records by the independent auditors to ensure completion of such audit in a timely and cost effective manner. Responsible for reviewing all audit schedules.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements to accelerate close timelines; Partner with VP on strategic and operational initiatives to optimize the overall efficiency and effectiveness of broader accounting function.

  • Responsible for evaluating alternative accounting treatments and determining necessary journal entries to record or correct routine and unusual transactions

  • Provide assistance to community Executive Directors and department heads with interpreting monthly financial results and general ledger detail. Provide support to community management as needed.

  • Works in coordination with the VP to ensure the security, integrity and confidentiality of financial systems, financial transactions, financial statements (internal, GAAP, regulatory), tax reporting and other financial reports.

We are searching for candidates who possess a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or relevant discipline with extensive work experience in the specified activities above; CPA preferred;  and a minimum five years’ accounting and management experience (a blend of public and private accounting experience preferred).

The selected candidate will possess strong knowledge of accounting theory and the ability to apply knowledge to ensure accounting transactions are in accordance with GAAP; will possess strong management abilities including planning, organizing, motivating and leading; high level of interpersonal skills including ability to handle complaints/objections, resolve conflicts, teamwork and telephone skills; excellent mathematical abilities including budget/variance reporting and statistical analysis.  This position requires occasional local and overnight travel and requires overtime during the months of April, May, June and other occasions as needed.

Minimum starting salary is $42.39/hour.
