The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics department of Ambulatory Surgery Center is seeking a 100%Surgical Technologist. Under the direction of a registered professional nurse assists with surgical procedures; provision of therapeutic, preventative and emergency patient care duties; and preparation, operation and maintenance of routine and complex equipment, instruments and supplies.
Duties to include:
Cleans, checks, orders and re-supplies surgical area and support/storage areas
Provides proper care and handling of equipment, instruments and supplies (E/I/S).
Prepares surgical area for patient care.
Provides therapeutic, preventive and emergency patient care in an operating room setting.
Drapes the patient and equipment appropriate to surgical procedure.
Recognizes and communicates breaks in aseptic technique.
Documents and communicates creation of sterile field.
Prepares and passes sutures to the surgeon.
Positions patient for surgery and to facilitate breathing, initiating corrective action for airway obstruction.
Performs sponge, sharps, and instrument counts.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of principles of medical and surgical asepsis.
Knowledge of medical instruments and supplies.
Knowledge of cleaning, decontaminating and sterilizing procedures.
Knowledge and ability to perform CPR and emergency care procedures.
Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
Ability to maintain a courteous and respectful approach toward patients, visitors, and fellow staff members.
Ability to work safely and willingness to comply with special safety and health precautions.
Ability to follow protocols for the disposal of linen, waste and contaminated supplies and equipment.
Ability to transport and/or escort patients.
Ability to follow universal precautions.
Ability to provide care and with regard to patient condition and age.
Ability to us supplies and equipment in a cost-efficient manner.
Ability to maintain personal appearance in accordance with dress code.
Ability to alter work schedule to meet unit/patient needs.
Ability to be punctual and dependable.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships.

Schedule: Monday through Friday
Location: Ambulatory Surgery Center at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics
Rotations: 10 hour shifts scheduled 6:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. plus extension of shift call.
Regular salaried position located in Iowa City, Iowa

Minimum Eligibility Requirements
Satisfactory completion of a vocational or military course in surgical technology, or certification as a Surgical Technologist.
Prior perioperative experience
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Previous ASC experience is desired
Demonstrates customer service and service recovery
