Software Engineering Manager
Caliber Public Safety - Remote

Caliber Public Safety, a division of Harris Computer, is seeking a hands-on Software Engineering Manager. Reporting to the Director of Software Engineering, you will lead a team of software engineers responsible for product enhancements, integrations, and on-going maintenance of a Case Management and Laboratory Information Management System suite for forensic laboratories and medical examiners.

This role is centered around directing a remote technical team, directly contributing to the software, collaborating with other departments, and continuously promoting best practices and the growth of technical expertise.

• Lead a development team and directly contribute in enhancing and maintaining a portfolio of products.


• Work closely with your team in solving problems, debugging issues, and guiding their development efforts.


• Collaborate with management, customer service, and business analysts.


• Contribute towards providing our clients with stable and secure production environments.


• Implement and maintain R&D best practices.


• Set short & long-term goals for your team & empower them to attain those goals.


• Organize team reporting and working meetings; support the team in managing progress; manage risks and issues; correct deviations from plans; with focus on regular and timely delivery of value.


• Manage multiple requests and prioritization of your team’s work.


• Understand the strengths and weaknesses of your team, advocate for their success, make commitments based on your experience leading your teams and ensure that those commitments are met.


• Coach your team to implement a culture of continuous improvement and performance.


• Support your team’s productivity by working across departments solving problems and clearing roadblocks.


• Evaluate and implement tools to reduce development costs or improve efficiency.


• Coordinate the maintenance of development and QA testing environments.


• Promote teamwork and build trust in a safe cooperative environment.

What we are looking for:

• 10+ years of experience as a successful Software Engineer.


• 3+ years of experience leading a team of 4 or more Software Engineers.


• Experience with an Agile SDLC.


• Ability to both lead a team of Software Engineers and directly contribute.


• A self-motivated individual who takes ownership of goals and objectives.


• Exhibit a creative approach to problem-solving with the ability to focus on details while maintaining the ‘big picture’ view. Capable of improvising, adapting, and overcoming when obstacles materialize.


• Deep knowledge of Microsoft .Net Framework, .Net Core, and web technologies including Angular.


• Experience with SQL in database environments like Oracle and MS SQL server.


• Proven results-oriented person with a focus on consistent and predictable delivery.


• Ability to work independently and react quickly to changing priorities with a consistent sense of urgency.


• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.


• Manage confrontation and uncomfortable conversations with composure and respect.


• Enthusiastic and ability inspire others to deliver value while having fun as a team.


• Ability to work some evening hours when system changes or maintenance require it.
