Business Development Manager (Hunter) at INIT Innovations in Transportation, Inc. in Chesapeake, Virginia

Job Description:

Ideally, the successful candidate will work in our Chesapeake, VA office.  However, we would be open to a remote working arrangement for candidates with significant public transit experience and a proven track record of working from home. Compensation will be based on experience and qualifications. 


Primary Summary:


This position will report directly to the Senior Director, Business Development and will be responsible for identifying, researching, and pursing new clients that align with the INIT suite of products.  Primary duties will focus on new customer engagement and closing new business through the suite of the INIT product lines - by locating, developing, defining, negotiating, and closing new business.  This position typically works with limited supervision and direction and decision making and initiative is must.  Travel estimated between 50% - 75%, working at customer sites, conferences, exhibitions and workshops (including International travel).  Travel estimate based on “normal” working conditions which are currently impacted by the global pandemic.


Required Skills: 


The candidate will have experience and knowledge of enterprise selling cycle with experience in the public transit sector. Candidate will be responsible for researching, qualifying, developing, identifying customer pains, and matching the INIT suite of products to solve those customer pain points.  The candidate will be self-motivated, technologically adept, organized, and a strategic thinker who has experience with selling value over price.  The candidate will be responsible for appointment setting with prospects, developing rapport with all areas of the prospect organization staff, and finding creative solutions to resolve customer pains. 


Required Experience:


The candidate should have experience in analyzing and developing market strategies, gathering requirements, identifying partners and subcontractors, win themes and capture planning as well as long-term potential for prospects.  The candidate should have experience as a sales lead putting together a winning team and working closely with the proposal team to produce a winning proposal.  The candidate will be responsible for presentations to prospects (as well as internal stakeholders) and have experience with prospecting, business plan development, target prospect marketing and be able to demonstrate experience in the sales cycle as it relates to long lead sales selling.


The candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in a technical or business discipline and must have 3+ years of experience with sales, account management as well as worked/working in the public transport sector.

The candidate should demonstrate success in building business, achieving, or exceeding sales goals, working with long sales cycles with strong ability to identify customer’s pains and needs to match them to the products they are selling.


Required Cognitive Skills:


The candidate must have the ability/desire/experience to improvise, multi-task, learn from mistakes, problem solve and be quick to learn/adapt to new products.  The candidate must be willing to learn new products and processes and participate in educational sessions and conferences as directed.  The candidate must have excellent computer skills in email, internet, Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, PPT, and Outlook) as well as Salesforce for customer relationship management.
