The Resource/Support Tech will cover a diversity of tasks meant to support all clinical departments and provide clinical, administrative and security support to nursing and health care providers throughout the hospital. The emphasis is to perform patient care duties under the supervision of the RN as well as support administrative functions such as; assisting with patient registrations, medical chart / EMR management as needed, unit secretary functions, managing confidential patient information and assist with hospital security.
Priority Job Duties and Responsibilities
Works under the direction of the RN to assist with patient care responsibilities and clinically function at the top of their "scope of practice" and training.
Under direction from the RN, demonstrates competency and documentation of clinical skills such as; taking of vital signs, treatments, procedures, venipuncture, waived testing as appropriate for the department, EKG testing, and specimen handling.
Demonstrates knowledge and competency of essential equipment such as transfer devices and lifts, monitors, patient safety devices, and patient care equipment.
Understands age appropriate behaviors, and interventions for all NCH patients.
Assists patients with ADLs as needed.
Demonstrates the ability to recognize and deal with emergencies (example CPR, code blue button).
Communicates changes in patient condition in a timely manner.
Weighs, lifts, moves, positions and transports patients as appropriate.
Promptly answers patient lights / call bells.
Provides 1:1 support when needed
Practices infection control processes for all patient populations. (Utilize face shields/mask, gloves, protective clothing, safety glasses, and other protection associated with the care of patients) per NCH policy.
Pre-registers patients, obtains, verifies and records personal and demographic information. Collects this information accurately and comprehensively.
Maintains confidentiality and privacy consistent with HIPAA guidelines.
Understands financial services and self-pay resources and provides patients with information and referrals to financial counseling as needed.
Supports "Patient Safety Alert Team" and assists in security issues as required and per MOAB/CPI training.
Performs security rounds throughout the hospital as needed.
Floats throughout the clinical departments as needed per the nurse managers and/or nursing supervisors.
Maintains a safe and pleasant environment for the patient.
Secondary Job Duties and Responsibilities
(low census responsibilities)
Maintains adequate stock of supplies in patient rooms and patient care areas.
Maintains par levels of the clean supply and medication rooms, re-orders items as needed, keeps an accurate list of supplies, re-stocks shelves and maintains a clean environment.
Exchanges needle boxes, replaces gloves in all patient rooms and participates in maintaining a clean, clutter-free environment.
Appropriately wipes down equipment after patient use.
Answers phones, makes calls as requested, assists in putting together patient charts.
Provides cross-coverage for other practice staff members for absences and vacations as well as during variations in workflow.
Assists in training and orienting new staff.
Reviews, attends, and signs all in-service updates.
Actively participates in own performance appraisal.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for the Position

Stand/walk 90% of the shift, frequent pushing, climbing, bending, reaching, stooping, squatting and helping lift objects and patients and move patients via wheelchair or stretcher.
Credentials and Experience Required
High school diploma or equivalent.
EMT, LPN, or completion of 1 year of clinical rotation in an accredited RN program.
May consider a Medical Assistant or Patient Care Technician with appropriate experience.
English language proficiency in speaking, reading, writing and typing is required.
Three years of related clinical experience preferred
Completion of IS 100 and decontamination training
Completion of Sitter training within 60 days.
BLS - CPR within 30 days
MOAB or CPI and Active shooter training with-in 6 months of hire
Special Requirements
Available to work evening and/or night shifts. Rotation on weekends as assigned. Rotate to units as assigned.
May be exposed to the following hazards: temperature fluctuations, moderate noise levels, minimal dust, infectious diseases and other chemicals as customarily used in a hospital setting. Exposure to various hazards in handling patient transports.
Must be available to work in the case of a Hospital declared emergency.
Knowledge of:
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Demonstrated knowledge of HIPAA Confidentiality and Privacy Policies.
Demonstrated understanding of disaster protocols to include fire, safety, and code calls, pursuant to the mandatory training requirements outlined by NCH and JCAHO guidelines.
Additional Skills:
Command of the English language including some medical terminology
