Your Role:




We are seeking a highly motivated senior scientist or engineer to join the company as a Principal Process Analytical Technology (PAT) Scientist! A meaningful and business critical role within the BioContinuum™ Platform Applications & Innovation team. We are working at bench-scale, leading the evolution and convergence of process, analytical, and digital technologies to pioneer a facility of the future for continuous biomanufacturing.

Key responsibilities include:



  • Driving the development of at-line, in-line, and on-line PAT methods for intensified bioprocessing through technology scouting and execution of lab-based evaluations within connected production and purification trains.

  • Collaborating with process and data scientists/engineers to identify and display real-time or near-real time performance indicators, develop mechanistic and hybrid predictive models, and develop sophisticated process control strategies utilizing next generation sensors.

  • Crafting our PAT strategy in intensified and continuous biomanufacturing by leveraging your industrial experience and understanding of manufacturing pain points and bottlenecks to propose new project concepts, to align objectives with key stakeholders, and to execute on project plans.

  • Engagement with customers, industry consortia, and internal colleagues to ensure evolving requirements for continuous manufacturing are designed into the capabilities of our product pipeline and evaluated under real-world conditions to enable successful implementation of our solutions.

  • Disseminating key results by delivering internal and external thought leadership activities.

Who you are





Minimum Qualifications:



  • BS Degree in Chemical Engineering, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biochemical Engineering, or related discipline with minimum 12 years of direct experience; MS with 10 years or PhD with 7 years

  • Hands-on experience in analytical techniques for protein quality and purity, particularly for CHO cell-based processes and monoclonal antibodies

  • Proficiency with spectroscopy (i.e. Raman, NIR, MIR, UV), chemometrics, statistics, multivariate data analysis, and modeling of complex spectroscopy data.

  • Ability to tackle problems creatively and contribute to innovation in product and process development

  • Experience managing numerous projects simultaneously to meet deliverables and timelines

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to present at internal and external meetings and produce publication-quality documentation

  • Proven track record as a committed team member having worked on multi-disciplinary teams in a matrix environment



Preferred Qualifications:




  • Background in approaches and implementation of PAT for real-time monitoring and control of key process parameters and quality attributes is desired

  • Experience with lab-based automation and data processing software, including feed-forward and feed-back control loop implementation is a plus

  • Solid understanding of pharmaceutical/biotechnology regulatory and quality issues including GMP regulations and QbD principles
