The University of Iowa Facilities Management is seeking a highly motivated person to work as an HVAC Technician I. The person in this role will install, maintain, and service building and departmental heating ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. This position coordinates work with other trades and must be certified to perform work to levels set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency. The person in this role must be able to diagnose complex equipment problems, use sophisticated diagnostic equipment and EPA approved refrigerant reclaim equipment.
Duties to Include:
Installs and maintains air-moving, heating, cooling, humidification and filtering equipment and systems such as fans, heat pumps, gas unit heaters, forced airequipment, furnaces, radiant heating, condensers, compressors, pumps, fan coil units, rooftop package air conditioning units, computer room cooling units, etc.
Troubleshoot complex Mechanical Systems.
Repair/replace defective parts and equipment.
Operate computerized building environmental automation systems that control heating and cooling systems.
Use specialized testing equipment for diagnostic evaluation.
Read and interpret prints, schematics and diagrams.
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm: overtime as required

About Facilities Management:
Facilities Management (FM) is a service unit of approximately 500 employees who work behind the scenes, 24 hours a day, serving the University of Iowa as stewards for our downtown Iowa City campus and Oakdale campus in Coralville. FM staff coordinate campus master planning, manage design and construction, and maintain and clean the buildings and grounds.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
Four years of experience in refrigeration, heating or air conditioning work, including apprenticeship; and
Obtains refrigeration certificate of at least type 2 within first six months of employment.
Must possess a valid driver's license and meet & maintain University's Fleet Safety Program.
Desirable Qualifications
Previous soldering experience.
Previous Commercial / industrial HVAC experience.
Basic computer skills.
Project work knowledge and use of hand tools, power tools, and test equipment.
Public contact / customer service experience.
Hydronic license
Preventative maintenance and troubleshooting experience
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to work with and around a diverse culture.
Good communication skills and experience working on a team.
