Financial Aid Counselor I at University of Houston - Downtown in Houston, Texas

Job Description:

This position may be eligible for Hybrid Work, working remotely for up to one day per week after the initial 90 days of employment.

Hourly Rate: $17.45/hr. or higher, commensurate with experience and/or education 

The Financial Aid Counselor I assists prospective and current students with all matters related to acquiring and maintaining financial aid.

DUTIES

• Participates and collaborates in outreach activities and special events planning


• Creates, organizes, maintains, and promotes financial aid information


• Advises students on the financial aid process and procedures


• Responds to students' questions and concerns

MARGINAL DUTIES

• Performs all other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge:

• Knowledge of the financial aid process in a higher education environment, and of the related trends, issues, and practices

Skills:

• Good technical skills, including proficiency in MS Publisher and Outlook; strong analytical and problem-solving skills


• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Abilities:

• Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community

WORK LOCATION AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Primary Work Location: Works in an office environment

Physical Demands: Work is performed in a typical interior work environment that does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements; the individual has discretion in relation to walking, standing, etc., and has minimal exposure to physical risks.  Must have precise hand-eye coordination and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.  Must have the ability to move items of up to 15lbs
