Position Overview: Provide leadership to a team that performs substation physical leadership, design, technical support, and coordination to a Transmission Substation engineering and design team for the purpose of delivering safe, cost-effective, and quality design and drafting projects. Provide technical competency and direction on complex problems for projects including a wide range of utility substation projects, battery energy storage systems and solar collector substations. The incumbent is expected to lead discipline work for projects and manage project schedules and budgets. The incumbent will also support proposal development, project cost estimating as well as supporting business development efforts.
Duties & Responsibilities
Leadership and communication skills commensurate with leading a team of technical professionals in Design and Drafting
Ability to create, reinforce, and improve teams in the execution of Engineering designs for clients and the delivery of projects with high quality, on time and within budget
Advanced understanding of substation design to include equipment arrangements, equipment specifics, and substation construction as it applies to utility substation and transmission line equipment facilities
Create substation physical design project drawings from existing standards based on client standards and industry best practices
Create/Improve quality control measures to ensure design and drafting meet standards
Proficient interpreting all parts of a physical design for utility stations through 500kV, including substation arrangements, sections, and elevations, foundation and grading plans, lighting plans and details, fence plans and details, grounding plans and details, rigid bus designs, strain bus designs, below grade designs to include duct banks and cable trenches, single phase transformer banks, bus and equipment support structures
Mentor designers/drafters
Thoroughly understand the installation of high voltage transformers, group operated disconnect switches, breakers, PTs, CCVTs, line turners, surge arresters, and other equipment within the substation and be able to create/draft sections, details, and overviews
Understand grounding designs
Experience checking designs for accuracy, appearance, and adherence to customer standards
Collaborate, communicate, and liaise effectively with other design disciplines, colleagues, construction contractors, consultants, materials suppliers, and clients
Visit sites, advise on physical design issues, and modify design to solve issues during construction
Manage budgets and project schedules
Requirements
10+ Year(s) experience in CAD Design
Supervise 4-8 direct reports
Proven Autocad and/or Microstation 2D and 3D skills
Proven Leadership experience or abilities
