Job Description

Dimensions:


  • Performs technical O&M activities related to the wastewater and storm water collection, flood control facilities and all related infrastructure, equipment, processes and systems

  • Performs routine R&M activities related to the wastewater and storm water collection, flood control facilities and all related infrastructure, equipment, processes and systems

  • Performs street sweeping, catch basin cleaning and sewer system cleaning activities.

  • Performs sewer service calls, inspections and digsafe activities

  • Assists department in planning, scheduling and performing all department activities

  • Assists department in maintaining proper inventory of spare parts, materials and supplies

  • Assists in ensuring all equipment and processes are well maintained and functioning properly

  • Perform work in a safe and professional manner by following all corporate and regulatory policies, procedures, and emergency response procedures.

  • Work weekends, holidays, and be on-call on a rotating basis/schedule with fellow operators

  • Respond to emergencies, work additional hours as required to complete tasks as/and when needed

  • Assists project and department with all efforts related to Contract Compliance

  • Assists project and department to develop a culture of focus and engagement at the project to achieve EH&S excellence

  • Assists project and department with all efforts related to project/corporate and regulatory environmental, health and safety policies and procedures

  • Work closely with client/customer, vendors and contractors ensuring professional, courteous, prompt service and satisfaction

Nature & Scope-Principal Areas of Responsibilities:


  • Technical O&R&M of the Project's Wastewater and Stormwater Collections facilities and systems and all related to

  • Complete and maintain proper operational and maintenance documents and records

  • Operates equipment and processes manually and through instrument control panels.

  • Operate project heavy equipment, vactor truck, jetter truck, sweepers, bobcat, fork truck, dump trucks, etc.

  • Operate company and client owned vehicles

  • Operate project large/powered maintenance tools and equipment

  • Operate project heavy equipment, upon proper training and licensing

  • Perform cleanup/housekeeping activities at all facilities, buildings and ground

  • Keeps work areas, tools and equipment properly maintained and clean

  • Proficient in the operation and use of various hand and power tools

  • Execute plans to meet the needs, goals and objectives of the project

  • Carries out other duties as assigned

  • Work is performed both inside and outside with exposure to all kinds of weather conditions. Incumbent may work on slippery/uneven surfaces, around machinery with moving parts, moving objects/vehicles, and ladder/scaffolding, below ground and may be exposed to water and other liquid materials.

Special Skills/Abilities Needed:


  • Strong reading, math, writing, and verbal communication skills

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to read, interpret, and record data from meters, gauges, scales, panels, computer consoles, and other equipment

  • Troubleshooting/problem solving skills, provides input for corrective actions and implements corrective actions as needed

  • Ability to understand/execute written and oral instructions, read/understand technical instructions and manuals

  • Working knowledge and skills in computer equipment and systems

  • Working knowledge and skills to operate specialty tools specific to Departmental needs and requirements

  • Ability to operate complex controls, processes, and equipment

  • Ability to maintain and repair equipment, have a strong mechanical aptitude

  • Knowledge of wastewater treatment systems, processes and equipment

  • Knowledge of wastewater regulations, requirements & reporting

  • Knowledge of proper Environmental, Health and Safety policies, procedures and requirements

  • Cooperative interactions with fellow employees and within the project organization

  • Must be able to work as a team in a teamwork-oriented environment

  • Must be able to work closely and communicate daily with customers ensuring professional, courteous, prompt service and customer satisfaction

  • Must be able to work closely with local contractors and vendors

  • Must be safety conscious and at times be able to work independently with little/no supervision

  • No physical restrictions that would prevent them from performing physical labor

Education/Equivalent:


  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Valid MA Grade II or higher Collection System Operator License or ability to acquire within one year

  • Valid MA Driver's license and the ability to meet risk management guidelines.

  • Valid MA Driver's license, CDL Class "B" w/Hydraulics License/Endorsement or ability to acquire within one year

Work Experience Needed:


  • Entry to Intermediate Level 1-5 years' experience working in the water or wastewater industry or related fields

  • Experience in a construction or utility related field, or a combination of education and experience required.
