The Division of Development and Alumni Relations has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Major Gifts Officer (Palm Beach).


The Division of Development and Alumni Relations supports and promotes the mission, purpose, and priorities of the University of Miami through fundraising and engagement by building and nurturing strategic philanthropic relationships to improve and transform the lives of individuals and communities. The Sr. Philanthropy Officer (Palm Beach) will oversee fundraising for Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and UHealth System in Palm Beach. The Sr. Philanthropy Officer will work with the appropriate faculty leadership in the Department to secure major and principal gifts. The Sr. Philanthropy Officer will coordinate with the Assistant Vice President, Sylvester Development as needed, to execute strategy.



Essential Responsibilities:



The Senior Philanthropy Officer leadership, administrative and operational responsibilities will include:


  • Develop and continually grow a personal, in-depth knowledge of Sylvester and UHealth's programs and research priorities at the Miller School. Develop and continually grow effective working relationships with the Director of the cancer center and Chairmen of departments.


  • Develop and drive a strategic fundraising strategy in conjunction with medical and Development leadership. Collaborate with Director/Chairmen to identify and develop bold ideas as well as to identify the most appropriate bridging platforms supporting this area.


  • Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and volunteers, as appropriate, to identify potential grateful patients and other prospective donors and funding sources and to develop cultivation and solicitation strategies.


  • Solicit major and principal gifts from grateful patients, grateful patient families and other prospects in support of faculty, programs, and research.


  • Ensure regular communications and stewardship with donors, including proper acknowledgement of gifts and pledge payments, reporting as needed, and the provision of information in accordance with the Division's policies and established procedures.


  • Assist donors, prospects and other select individuals with appointments, scheduling, and other necessary facilitation through clinical encounters at UHealth.


  • Develop and implement an annual work plan with measurable objectives and courses of action for all relevant activities during the year.


  • Maintain communications with colleagues in medical departments, other schools, and central development to ensure effective collaborations and synergy in achieving the University's key fundraising goals and objectives.


  • Document all contacts, communications, visits, and proposals in Blackbaud CRM and other appropriate donor files.


  • Where appropriate and required, manage support staff, freelance, temporary employees, and related volunteer organizations, as determined by senior management.


  • Provide professional fundraising services and support to other divisions, departments, and centers as required and directed.





Measures of Success:



  • Demonstrate success in reaching and significant and continuous progress toward establishing and attaining ever-increasing campaign or multi-year project goals. Dollar goals will be established with supervisor.


  • Reach individual and team annual goals for qualifications, dollars raised, visits, impact actions, and solicitations. Goals established with supervisor.


  • Manage appropriate prospect portfolio, continually working throughout the year with assigned Senior Portfolio Optimization Analyst to fine tune portfolio.


  • Demonstrate personal development of leadership traits and behaviors, as well as a professional competency in accordance with annual Divisional goal setting guidelines.





Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree and minimum 7 years of demonstrated successful experience in major gift fundraising and fundraising management, preferably in higher education or health care. Outstanding oral and written communication skills are necessary along with the ability to be highly organized, creative, energetic, and assertive and exhibit the independent judgment and personal integrity necessary to carry out a senior management role in fundraising.


  • A team-oriented approach to colleagues and a proven ability to manage people in a positive and constructive environment as well as the ability to establish effective working relationships with senior medical leadership are essential.
