Job Description:

The SURGICAL TECHNOLOGIST is an integral member of the multi-disciplinary team who works with the surgeon, anesthesiologist or anesthetist and the registered nurse as a member of the direct patient care team during surgical intervention. The surgical technologist assists by preparing and handling supplies, instruments and equipment to maintain a safe, therapeutic environment.

Working Hours : Mon-Thursday 630-330 pm Fridays 630 am -12:30pm (with flexibility)

Core Responsibilities/Essential Functions


  • Demonstrates ability to plan for surgical procedures.

  • Demonstrates ability to "scrub" for surgical procedures.

  • Applies principles of asepsis and adheres to infection control guidelines and Universal Precautions.

  • Assembles/disassembles/operates complex surgical equipment.

  • Maintains sponge and needle counts, instrument count when required.

  • Responsible for the proper care and handling of all general and specialty instruments including the cleaning, preparation, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation.

  • Carefully handles specimens.

  • Attends appropriate department staff meetings and in-services and is responsible for maintaining current CPR certification.

  • Assists with room clean-up at the conclusion of the operative procedure and at the end of the day. Assists with room re-stocking and cleaning.

  • Assists with orientation/teaching of personnel in the scrub role/instrument tech.

  • Assists in maintaining Doctor's preference cards. Demonstrates knowledge of sterilization process and record keeping of such processes.

  • R eports any problems in a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications


  • Current BLS certification

  • Demonstrates verbal communication skills

  • Basic Computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office applications.

  • Strong Customer centric.

  • Requires critical thinking, communication, decision making, analytical and strong interpersonal relationship skills.

  • ASC experience preferred.

  • Certification optional

This role is subject to the CMS (Centers for Medicare/Medicaid Services) COVID-19 vaccine mandate. Full vaccination is required, meaning that workers in this position must have received one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine or two doses of an mRNA vaccine before the first day of work.
