We are seeking a Research Assistant who provides research, administrative, and outreach support to the Institute for Education Policy Director Dr. Ashley Berner. This is a high impact position for entrepreneurial individuals with an interest in education policy and the motivation to grow.
Note: Position will be remote for the foreseeable future.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Conducts research in support of Director's research projects: 40%
Supports the Global Educational Pluralism network on behalf of the Director, including identifying new scholars, maintaining contact between scholars, and planning virtual discussions across this international group
Conducts ongoing research for Director on her writing and speaking projects
Supports the Director's preparation for external meetings with partners: 20%
Researches individuals and organizations for upcoming meetings
Follows up on meeting take-aways as needed
Supports the Institute's growth and development activities: 20%
Becomes adept at using the Foundation Center website to identify potential benefactors and syncs up efforts with the School of Education's development team
Conducts initial outreach to potential funders on the Director's behalf
Formats the Director's presentations and updates the Director's CV: 20%
Designs PowerPoint presentations and formats reports for the Director
Supports the Director's grant-writing efforts; drafts scopes of work on Director's behalf
Level of Independent Decision-Making:
Must be able to work with a high degree of autonomy to carry out research and light administrative tasks, interact with influential policymakers and benefactors, and exercise good judgment on behalf of the Institute.
The Institute's leadership team does not expect to review and proof work for this position. Work must be of a caliber representative of the Director.

SOE and departmental leadership.
SOE Faculty and staff.
Experts in the field of education.
Event participants and attendees.
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
Bachelor's degree in related discipline.
Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.*
* JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
Interest in education policy.
Experience in an office (virtual or in-person) environment.
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Must have demonstrable, exceptional writing skills.
Strong MS Office suite skills, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Knowledge of Apple iOS and MacOS is a plus.
Must be highly accurate, organized and highly detail-oriented (meticulous).
Proven track record of initiative and follow-through.
Must be highly collaborative, able to work with a diverse population and have strong teamwork skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must be able to draft professional emails and short communication pieces without grammatical errors.
Ability to interact in a variety of important social contexts appropriately.
