We are seeking a full-time Aviation Technical Publications Team Leader for our Pacific Northwest Salem, Oregon location. In this role, you will be responsible for leading a team of Aviation Technical Writers to produce user’s guides, installation manuals, maintenance manuals, and/or service documents.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Directly supervise various levels of team members by setting the tone for the team environment and providing individualized coaching, training and mentoring
Participate in recruiting activities, interview, hire, train, evaluate performance, manage efficient execution of schedules, and handle associate issues for the team
Ensure the team follows department standards and policies
Assist the CMS Administrator in S1000D management
Research and collect data to write pilot’s guides, quick reference guides, installation manuals, maintenance manuals, and/or service documents
Create electronic documents using word processing and desktop publishing tools
Communicate with the Design Engineers in areas that relate to the product specifications and product development
Research airframe technical characteristics to accurately document functions and features of specific aviation products
Provide software beta testing input for Design Engineers, Program Managers, and Human Factors team
Facilitate the rework of mechanical drawings and screen captures
Prepare electronic documents for print output and support printing vendors
Work in a team environment within the Technical Publications area to constantly improve the archival, storage and documentation process
Edit copy written by other Technical Writers for content organization, style, voice, audience and consistency of format
Identify and incorporate opportunities to improve the user documentation experience
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field OR a minimum of 4 years relevant experience
Must possess a minimum of 3 years experience working as a Garmin International Aviation Technical Writer or a minimum of 10 years related experience as a Technical Writer
Avionics/aviation experience and/or knowledge
Proficient experience with desktop publishing tools
Extensive word processing experience
Working knowledge of S1000D publishing standards and relevant software
Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Must be positive, detail oriented, organized, team oriented and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and lead in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment
Desired Qualifications
Electronics/technical background
Adobe InDesign experience
Drafting education/experience
Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop experience
Multimedia and courseware development software experience
Familiarity with mass-production printing equipment and processes
Private Pilot license - Instrument rating a plus
