Job Description:

WTKR/WGNT, The E.W. Scripps station in Norfolk, Virginia is searching for a Senior Producer to create impactful journalism daily. The Senior Producer will create, lead, and organize content for broadcast, utilizing strong editorial, journalistic, organizational and communication skills. The Senior Producer will play a key role in showcasing our content in a unique and compelling way and will further our station’s commitment to tell stories that are important to the people who live, work, and play in Coastal Virginia and Northeast North Carolina. We are offering a $5,000 sign-on bonus for this role.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:


  • Develops and organizes newscasts or local programs; responsible for writing, story development and showcasing


  • Collaborates with reporters, anchors, news managers, producers, and assignment editors to determine content needs and storytelling direction


  • Provide training and coaching consistent with the content strategy to producers and associate producers to develop their overall skill set


  • Researches, develops, and produces newscasts, stories, and special projects. This may include live or prerecorded newscasts/local programs and showcasing our product in a unique way.


  • Enhances the content with graphics, video, research, and station branding


  • Executes time sensitive decisions


  • Responsible for oversight of live broadcast and up to the minute editorial decisions


WHAT YOU’LL NEED:


  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism or related field, or equivalent experience


  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a television writer or producer


WHAT YOU’LL BRING:


  • Ability and desire to own the big story of the day


  • Ability and desire to train others


  • Avid local news consumer; knows daily news, events, trends, and happenings on a local level


  • Strong vision and ability to advance stories


  • Excellent interpersonal communicator


  • Extraordinarily passionate about writing; courageous and creative storyteller with attention to details, like choosing the perfect words, grammar, spelling


  • Highly adaptable in a fast paced and deadline driven environment


  • Must be able to command a control room during a live newscast and live breaking news coverage


  • Strong self-motivation


  • Working knowledge of journalistic ethics and libel laws and strong editorial judgement


  • Must be a team player with a positive attitude


  • Prior knowledge of ENPS is a plus
