ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN at Amsted Rail in Hebron, Illinois

Job Description:

The Engineering Technician assists manufacturing with setup and first piece approval of all equipment.  The Technician identifies opportunities for improvements to plant equipment by assisting in creating work instructions / documentation, assisting during equipment installation, and providing feedback to Operations leadership.  Additionally, the Engineering Technician assists in maintaining and working with specialized equipment.  Finally, they are responsible for maintaining KPIs, ordering replacement tooling, and completing design activities as called upon.

Experience should include operating and maintaining stamping equipment.  Ongoing continuous improvement of production functionality is a vital part of this position; therefore, this role will drive reliability of new systems deployed as well as improving the support of legacy equipment. 

 

What you will do:


  • Adhere to plant-wide safety, ergonomics and environmental requirements defined by Amsted Rail; outlined by the Amsted Rail Health & Safety program

  • Implement and oversee inspection plans

  • Monitor and improve equipment uptime and line efficiency, and use this information to assist Operations in making improvements and to maintain plant KPIs

  • Take the lead in troubleshooting equipment and processes as well as improving changeover efficiency

  • Assist in the maintenance and updating of work instructions, process flow diagram and control plans

  • Maintain professional contact with customers and suppliers

  • Interpret and maintain internal as well as Customer prints

  • Support the AutoCAD and SolidWorks drawing needs and requirements

  • Oversee the test lab equipment, including setup, tear downs and data recording

  • Oversee the warranty analysis and diagnosis, including customer communication

  • Use data and feedback from maintenance and operations to improve the reliability of assets already deployed on the floor (examples: MES, Pareto charts, Bottleneck process, etc.)

  • Liaison between Operations and Maintenance departments to develop training plans and content for new equipment

  • Develop spare parts lists for new and existing equipment

  • Perform basic housekeeping to keep area clean and safe

  • Go to additional product related training as needed

  • Work independently and/or as part of a team

  • Perform other duties as assigned, including but not limited, to support of the day to day to manufacturing and assembly operations as needed

What is required:

  • High School diploma, or equivalent, with minimum 5 years’ experience, additional experience may be substituted for a degree

  • Associate’s degree in engineering or related discipline preferred

  • A basic understanding of computer operations, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD Software, SolidWorks, as well as the ability to work with various PLC programming software

  • Strong mechanical/electrical fundamentals and analytical background

  • Ability to use hand tools and inspection equipment

  • Be able to lift up to 40 lbs on a regular basis
