The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As a Control Systems Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:


  • Understanding and integrating with 3M’s manufacturing data systems and control systems to provide software tools for data analytics, visualization, and machine learning

  • Providing effective control system solutions to a variety of new and existing automated process equipment

  • Working in a team environment to successfully meet project milestones

  • Leading deployment of Industry 4.0 applications

  • Implementing data automation solutions to drive productivity improvement

  • Developing and utilizing advanced analytics solutions

  • Determining root causes of manufacturing and business problems

  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining software and systems for 3M manufacturing environments

  • Interacting with Production operations to understand problems and assess the need for smart manufacturing solutions

  • Willingness to be on-call (interest question)

Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution in Control Systems, Electrical Engineering or Software Development.

OR

  • Associates Degree/Technical Diploma (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution and a minimum of two (2) years of Control Systems, Electrical Engineering, Software Development, Data Analysis, Data Integration, and/or Manufacturing Process Optimization experience in a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:


  • Masters of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology

  • Five (5) years experience working with machine control system design and commissioning

  • Experience with Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens controls systems and hardware

  • Experience with PLC, OPC automation and/or robotics

  • Manufacturing Execution System (MES) integration experience

  • Savigent Software (Symphony Industrial AI) experience

  • Database skills with SQL scripts and stored procedures

Travel: May include up to 20% domestic/international

Relocation Assistance: May be authorized

Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
