About the role:

Under the direction of the Site Capital Lead, you will help engineer support for operations and projects. You will provide engineering support in cross-functional teams for capital projects - from front-end planning and design to execution. Additionally, you will follow global procedures and employ best practices to implement capital projects and meet budget and timeline commitments.

How you will contribute:


  • Identify process and equipment improvement opportunities; lead improvement projects through conception, implementation, and completion/handover.

  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) expected to mentor junior engineering staff and contractors. May have direct or indirect reports.

  • Perform feasibility assessments for introduction of new processes and modification of existing processes.

  • Support/provide basic conceptual design (i.e., room/equipment layouts) and business case development up through detailed design with A&E (architectural and engineering) consulting partners. Make design recommendations/decisions.

  • Implement capital and operations projects in the capacity of the engineering lead, and project manager.

  • Contribute to the creation of a long-term Facility Master Plan document.

  • Provide technical expertise for troubleshooting manufacturing process and equipment problems.

  • Monitor and report project costs including capital and cross-functional expenses. Estimate cost affected by design and policy changes.

  • Contribute to the site capital plan submissions (3-year plan updated bi-annually). Support planning and scheduling activities.

  • Familiarity with generally accepted building, plumbing, piping, electrical, and fire protection practices and codes to include NFPA, NEC, UBC, UMC and UPC in compliance with Takeda EHS.

  • Ensure personal Training Plan execution and compliance.

  • Work with and oversee project contractor/vendor work.

  • Ensure safety, security, and the environment in all aspect of the daily activities and any potential safety hazardous are addressed and corrected immediately.

  • Understand ergonomic relationship between people, equipment and working environment.

  • Support regulatory, partner and internal audits.

  • Follow all SOPs during execution of daily work tasks.

  • Knowledge of cGMP Manufacturing and good documentation practice (GDP).

  • Familiarity with Formulation and filling processes, equipment, and unit operations (single use and stainless).

  • Familiarity with CIP, sterilization methods such as SIP, Autoclaves, lyophilizers, filling machines, capping machines, and aseptic processing.

  • Leadership and project management skills. Organize and present technical and project management overviews.

  • Provide solutions that reflect understanding our goals and cost possible effects.

  • Experience with equipment, piping, and site layout drawings. AutoCAD or similar program experience.

  • Familiarity with Process Modeling and direct experience with A&E design service providers.

Important Considerations

  • In general, your work will be a combination of sedentary work and walking around observing conditions in the facility.

  • May work in a confined area.

  • May require availability outside of business hours.

  • May be required to more than a 40-hour work week.

  • May work in a controlled environment requiring special gowning and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body. This may include additional hearing protection for loud areas.

  • Will need to remove all make-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish and artificial fingernails while in the manufacturing environment.

  • May work in a cold, hot or wet environment.

  • May work around chemicals such as alcohol, acids, buffers and Celite that may require respiratory protection.
