Electrical Engineering Technician - Electronics Team at Beta Technologies in SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vermont

Job Description:

Beta is seeking an electrical engineering technician to join our R&D electronics team. As an electrical
engineering technician, you will be an integral part of rapid prototyping and testing of proof-of-concept
and certified aircraft electronics design including inverters, instrumentation, battery management and
charging, flight controls, and more. This role will be heavily focused on printed circuit boards, but it will
also include electronics support in all aspects of the business.

How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:


    • Manage R&D parts inventory using PartsBox and Plex inventory systems. Interface with suppliers to ensure stock of long-lead-time components.

    • Given design files, order printed circuit boards and interface with manufacturers to ensure timely and accurate delivery of PCBAs.

    • Troubleshoot and rework aircraft-ready electrical equipment and printed circuit boards

    • Review printed circuit board designs for manufacturability/reworkability. Occasionally design simple printed circuit boards as test equipment/tools using KiCAD.

    • Assemble/solder R&D circuit boards in-house

    • Maintain R&D electronics lab cleanliness and equipment and procure commonly used materials including wire, crimps, heatshrink, etc.

    • Maintain R&D electronics lab safety

    • Work closely with engineering to develop and conduct test plans for circuit boards, motors, batteries, etc to validate compliance with requirements. Common tests may include hi-pot, vibration tolerance, thermal cycling and environmental exposure, HIRF/lightning, EMI/EMC, power supply line and load regulation, etc.

    • Assemble with aircraft wiring harnesses

    • Build cool things!

Minimum Qualifications we are seeking (your Knowledge, Experience, and Abilities):


    • Associates degree in electrical engineering technology/similar or equivalent work experience

    • Printed circuit board assembly/troubleshooting

    • Electronics test planning and execution

    • Experience building wiring harnesses (aircraft harnesses preferred) and experience with Molex connector series (Microfit, Nanofit, Minifit, Duraclick), Mil-Spec 38999-style connectors, etc.

    • Demonstrated ability to operate lab equipment including low and high-voltage power supplies, function generators, oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum analyzers, soldering irons, heat guns, crimping tools, etc

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills (and be a fun person to work with!)

    • Slack, Google G -Suite including drive, mail, calendar, docs, sheets, etc,

    • Ability to obtain airport SIDA clearance

Above and Beyond Qualifications that will distinguish you (preferred qualifications):


    • 3+ years work experience in electronics manufacturing, testing, etc.

    • Experience with aircraft certified designs which may include: DO-160/Mil-Std-704F, ARP4754, DO-178, DO-254, IPC-2221A/B, IEC 60664-1

    • Printed circuit board-level soldering experience as small as 0603 by hand, both initial assembly and rework. IPC J-STD001 - Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies training preferred

    • NFPA 70E Electrical Safety in the Workplace training

    • NFPA 70B Recommended Practice for Electrical Equipment Maintenance training

    • Forklift/machine operator certifications

This position will be based in the electronics lab and will involve hands-on electronics work includings soldering. This role will assist with installations of equipment on proof-of-concept aircraft, which involves climbing ladders, lifting up to 50 lbs, and occasionally working in inclement weather. This role must be able to obtain SIDA clearance.
