API Platform Engineer (Data Mesh)-100% remote at Valassis Digital Corp in Austin, Texas

Job Description:

The API Platform Engineer - Data Mesh is a critical contributor to developing and growing a new data architecture and framework for scalable analytics and innovation called Data Mesh. This new architecture and framework enable an organization to build valuable datasets and make them discoverable, safe, reliable, and reusable by applying software product thinking to the job of making datasets easy and fun to use. This role will build the key architectural and feature components for the data mesh, including but not limited to search, catalog, data API and documentation, data lineage, and user access. Additionally, the project includes implementing the orchestration, transformation, and data movement of the datasets involved in the data mesh architecture.

Day to day responsibilities will include:

• Developing the architectural components of the Data Mesh using multiple frameworks, services, and languages such as Python, Java and JavaScript.


• Developing data pipelines using both commercial and/or open-source data pipeline tools such as Apache Kafka, Apache Airflow, Confluent, AWS Data Pipeline or AWS Glue.


• Developing microservices, authentication and authorization capabilities.


• Developing and documenting APIs using commercial, full API lifecycle management tools and best practices.


• Build unit test cases for data products and execute them for coverage.


• Contribute to a cross functional Agile Scrum team using Agile Scrum best practices, ceremonies, and artifacts.

• 3-5+ years of hands-on application engineering experience, preferably in a cloud or hybrid cloud environment.


• Extensive experience building APIs & micro-services using techniques like REST, OpenAPI, Swagger, and Functions (AWS Lambda) is required.


• Working knowledge of API security certification, authentication, authorization, IP security setup, and end point configuration is preferred.


• Programming languages including Java, JavaScript, Python required.


• Experience building and documenting APIs with high availability and performance standards is required.


• Experience with APIs feeding frontend web applications is preferred but not required.


• Experience working in an Agile Scrum team is required.


• Experience building data pipelines and data orchestration systems is preferred.
