PRIMARY FUNCTION:  Provides necessary staff development support throughout the organization, Health Center, and PSU as required by regulations and the needs of St. Paul Senior Services and PACE.  Provides or ensures the provision of needed clinical and non-clinical training throughout the operational arm of St. Paul’s Senior Homes and Services



 



ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



 



Compiles data and analyzes past and current training requirements to determine the organization’s training needs. Confers with the Corporate Nurse on program training needs and develops In-Service Calendars.



  



Assists in formulating training policies, programs, and schedules, based on knowledge of identified training needs, federal and state licensing requirements, and changes in resident services (i.e., resident’s rights, safety, infection control, body mechanics, lifting techniques, etc.).  Coordinates and performs all CPR and First Aid training, including maintaining all records for CPR and First Aid.



 



Records all in-service training for employee files.






Conducts Weekly Employee Health Screening clinic



  



Provides or ensures the provision of required staff development activity and time as required by Title 22 to the McColl Health Center.  Maintains all the necessary records of licenses and certifications for all licensed staff and certified nursing assistants and checks each one annually for all facilities.



 Ensures required in-services are provided for all C.N.A S as outlined in title 22 for SNF and mandatories per regulations for RCFE, Senior Day, Childcare, and other areas.



 



Selects appropriate instructional procedures or methods such as individual training, group instruction, self-study, lectures, demonstrations, simulation exercises, role play, and computer-based training.



 



Organizes and develops training manuals, reference library, testing and evaluation procedures, multimedia visual aids, and other educational materials as needed by the organization.



 



In conjunction with the Corporate Nurse, trains instructors and supervisory personnel in effective techniques for training such as new employee orientation, on-the-job training, health and safety practices, management development, and adaptations to changes in policies, procedures, and technologies.



 



Monitors nursing Quality Assurance (QA) indicators as necessary and reports at QA meetings.



 



Coordinates necessary safety and disaster training.



 



Assists supervisors in recommending employees for participation in internal or external educational and training programs through screening, testing, and interviewing.



 



Keeps informed on new developments, methods, and techniques in the training field.



 



Performs other duties assigned by the Corporate Nurse.



 



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Must have a current license in the State of California as a Registered Nurse or equivalent education and training.  Must have a current CPR card.  Must be accredited by the State of California to conduct orientation and in-service programs or be willing to become accredited.  Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills and be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.



 



EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  RN, or equivalent training from an accredited school and a license to practice nursing or another health-related field in the state of California; at least three years of related experience, including direct care for the chronically ill and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Recommend one year of DSD experience.  Must understand Title 22, federal and local regulations about health and safety issues.  Must have, or be eligible to receive, a DSD certification from the State of California .



 



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Occasionally must be able to push, pull, lift and carry objects more than 20 pounds in weight.  Consistently, simple manipulative skills such as walking and standing will be required.  Frequently will be necessary to perform more moderately or complex skills such as positioning residents, keyboarding or typing, calibration of equipment, etc.  Occasionally will be required to read the fine print.  Must distinguish normal sounds from background noise, as in answering telephones.  Must be able to speak clearly and make self-understood.
