What Will Your Job Look Like?
The Mobility Assessment Evaluator (MAE)/Travel Trainer is responsible for conducting interviews, physical functional assessments and cognitive assessments with applicants to determine eligibility for ADA paratransit service. The Mobility Assessment Evaluator (MAE)/Travel Trainer will also be available to provide backup for intensive, one-to-one individualized training to individuals with disabilities and older adults with the goal of independent travel on public transportation. The Mobility Assessment Evaluator (MAE)/Travel Trainer is responsible for all paperwork and documentation associated with the position.
This position is contingent upon contract award.
What You’ll Do:
Conduct in-person interviews to assess mobility capabilities
Review any supplemental information provided
Determine what functional assessments the applicant will be required to undergo
Review interview results and application paperwork
Conduct functional assessment with applicants that may include:
Physical Functional Assessment using an outdoor course
Physical Functional Assessment using an indoor course
FACTS test
MMSE
Tinetti Balance test
Based on application, interview, functional assessment, and any supplemental information, make final determination regarding eligibility
Input all information into MTM Access and Trapeze software as appropriate
Conduct phone pre-screening calls
Complete in-person intake and assessment
Develop a personalized plan of instruction for participants based on their ability level and the goals of the individual
Provide one-on-one, individualized field training
Provide general route demonstration
Field training includes but is not limited to:
Trip planning
Schedule trainings at the time and location of the specific routes requested
Instruct individuals on the importance of safety in independent travel, transit skills, self advocacy, and how to handle emergency situations
Instruct individuals on how to travel routes including navigation and way-finding strategies to use, including when lost or confused while traveling
Create tools to help individual learn skills
Establish collaborative relationships with other professionals
Conduct follow-up sessions with individuals after training
Complete all reports and paperwork including but not limited to initial intake interview, goal setting and plan, progressive evaluation, assessment report, follow-up reports, closing report and satisfaction survey
Build rapport and communicate with family and natural support network of the individual
Submit accurate required reports on time
Maintain a positive attitude when interacting with participants and their caregivers
Provide high quality customer service
Must conform to MTM’s HIPAA standards
Other duties as assigned
What You’ll need:
Bachelor’s Degree in social services, rehabilitation, ancillary health care profession, Orientation and Mobility Instruction or a related field
Minimum of three years of professional experience working with individuals with disabilities
Familiarity with ADA regulations and sensitivity to issues relating to people with disabilities and older adults required
Experience conducting information-gathering interviews or assessments
Solid interviewing, assessment and observational skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively with older adults and people with a wide range of disabilities
Ability to interact effectively with individuals with varying levels of intellectual and cognitive functioning
Ability to be trained in administering a standardized evaluation tool and be able to consistently administer and score such a tool according to established protocols
Even better if you have...
Travel training experience preferred
Additional language skills are preferred
Ability to clearly communicate their findings and observations in written and verbal form on the required database reports and notes, as well as in certification letters
Familiarity with the local public transportation system
Demonstrated computer skills, proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn additional programs
Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
Ability to work flexible hours and adapt to a rapidly changing environment
Ability to handle confidential information in a professional manner

Annual Salary Rate: $70K
