Position Overview

This Environmental Supervisor position provides internal consulting services and leadership to our companies in all areas of environmental management. The selected individual would have a passion for the environment. This is a skilled position requiring someone who is detail-oriented, self-motivated, organized, and safety-minded to work in conjunction with the safety and operations teams to ensure and manage the compliance of environmental activities at the facilities of Preferred Materials, Inc., focused primarily on the South Florida territory.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)


  • Support environmental training, oversight and compliance within all Preferred Materials operations. This position is highly interactive with all levels of management within the Group.

  • There is a strong emphasis on coaching at all levels of management in understanding, identifying and correcting environmental issues and conditions that can lead to spills, releases or other incidents.

  • Assist in the coordination and facilitation of developing and sharing environmental best practices throughout our facilities and construction operations.

  • Conduct compliance site walks, detailed reviews, inspections, and internal audits to ensure adherence with all applicable environmental permits, rules, and regulations.

  • Obtain and manage environmental permits required for company plants, sites, and projects.

  • Ensure compliance or monitoring tests are conducted in accordance with timeframes outlined in environmental operation permits.

  • Maintain documentation on compliance activities such as inspections, audits, complaints, and investigations.

  • Inform internal field employees, managers, and outside contractors of company environmental policy, best practice, and compliance requirements.

  • Conduct new employee training and assist with the development of environmental training documents.

  • Participate in environmental education and research.

  • Report violations of environmental permits, rules, and regulations to company management personnel and, when required by operational permits, to duly authorized regulatory agencies.

  • Keep informed regarding changes to environmental legislation, trends, and best practices and assess the potential impact these changes will have on company operations.

  • Lead implementation of compliance-related policies/procedures.

  • Review required documentation at sites, projects, and plants to ensure ongoing compliance.

  • Advise field and management on use of any environmental compliance or reporting tools.

  • Assist management with environmental projects, as needed.

  • Develop and implement environmental compliance plans for programs such as air quality, stormwater discharges, oil spill prevention or control, recycling, managing hazardous materials, employee education, etc.

  • Ensure proper surface and groundwater management and spill and contingency planning are in compliance with Clean Water Act regulatory requirements.

  • Assist with maintenance of the Environmental Management System (EMS).

  • Assist with Property Management, as directed.

  • Apply for environmental awards, as directed.

  • File compliance or annual reports, as directed, required by regulatory agencies.

  • Assist with annual CRH sustainability report in a timely manner.

  • Carry out all assigned tasks and projects in a timely manner.

  • Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.

  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Experience


  • Bachelor of Science Degree, plus one to two years related experience and/or advanced formal environmental training in related functions is preferred; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Valid driver's license and excellent driving record is required and must be maintained.

Work Requirements


  • Must be 18 years or older.

  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.

  • Strict adherence to the safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.

  • Sound judgement in the application of environmental and safety principles.

  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to everyone at all times.

  • Computer skills and ability to use Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.

  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required, including nights and weekends when necessary.

  • Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA, MSHA and company policy.

  • Compliance with all OSHA and MSHA regulations as well as all company policies.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must by met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.


  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; occasionally up to 50 pounds.

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.

  • May occasionally be required to climb, crawl, kneel and bend.

  • Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • May require traveling up to 60% of the time.

Work Environment


  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee may be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.

  • The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock or burn.

  • The noise level in some areas of the work environment may be loud but is typically moderate.
